Towing advice

Post by Greg_Cornish »

Might make my dream fishing trip happen this summer by going back to Minnesota and fishing a S#!tload of lakes. I'll be towing my 21 foot pontoon.

Question, should I even try with 10 inch rim or should I move up to 13's? I thought if I took a grease gun along and checked the bearing for warmth every 300-400 miles, I'd be okay.

Any previous experience would be valued. My mechanic thinks I'll be okay. I won't be going over 60.

The larger the tire the more slowly it rotates, larger tires run cooler than smaller ones. Smaller tires generate more heat which is a leading cause of blowouts, that heat is transfered to surrounding surfaces as well i.e. bearings and axels

I would personally go with the largest wheel/tire combination that would fit the trailer. It does sound like a fun trip.
