Eastman Forage??

Post by GITBIT »

What is the major forage in Eastman? I am a little baffled as to what is the bait fish of choice for the large mouth there. I was also wandering if anyone has caught any spotted bass rumored to have been introduced there?

Thanks,

Mike

THE MAIN FORAGE IS BLUEGILL,CRAPPIE,MINNOWS,AND BABY BASS FRY WHEN THE SPAWN IS OVER. AND DON'T FORGET RAINBOW TROUT,AND THEY HAVE JUST PLANTED THE LAST WEEK.WHAT EASTMAN NEEDS IS FOR SHAD TO BE INTRODUCED INTO IT,THAT WOULD REALLY FATTEN UP EVERY SPECIES.BEEN FISHING THE LAKE FOR 20 + YEARS AND NEVER HAVE CAUGHT A SPOT. GUYS BRING THEM IN FROM OTHER LAKES AND IN MY OPINION,THE LARGEMOUTH AND THE SPOTTED BASS END UP BREEDING TOGETHER.EASTMAN DOES'T NEED THAT KEEP IT A LARGEMOUTH LAKE.

A good crawdad population also. And if you do happen to catch one or think it is a spotted bass and are not sure it is one Contact a ranger at the lake they has references they can go by. Its sad that people have to move fish that can ruin a really good population of largemouth bass in a lake.

I have heard people reference minnows, but what are they? Anyone know the species of minnow? I have seen some sort of small larvae in the mouths of some of the fish I have caught there. Mostly in the smaller fish.

If you catch a spot at Eastman, return it to the lake......but please cut it`s gills first so it bleeds to death.

If I catch a spot at Eastman...I can guarantee the cooks at my wife's restaurant are having fish soup for dinner.

There used to be lots of some type of bait fish back when fishing was super there. In the last several years, though we've noticed that they have all but disappeared, and fishing success has dropped. I have to wonder if the excessive trout planting doesn't have something to do with it.

I know you guys want the trout to support the trophy fishing, but the smaller year classes of bass need to feed too. Did any one else notice that some of these fish were very skinny in the last couple of years. A guy with me last year had a 19" fish that only weighed 2.5 lbs.

What color are the crawfish in the early spring?

I am at a loss with your post. I fished there 20+ times in 2009 and slayed them all the time. No only quantity, but quality. They are all torpedo's. Most of the 14 " fish ar 2+lbs I boated some donkeys as well. Many 6+ fish. It is still a great fishing lake, and the fish are as healthy as ever

Any one been out there this week? I am looking for the water temp and wonder if the water level has come up any more or if let any water out. I was there last Wed and was able to get a few. Working all this week, but was thinking about this weekend. Its either Eastman or LBC on Saturday. I really am starting to like Eastman but LBC was a favorite spot for me a few years ago and I think this year may produce some great fishing.
