anyone have the Diawa Viento?

Post by toadhunter »

Just curious to know if any of you have used this reel. It looks sharp, how is the performance? Pros? Cons?

Thanks in advance

Haven't used one but held one and played with it a bit. Very nice feel, as I recall about the size of a B-100 Curado (the "old-style" type). Felt very light. The Twitchin' bar is pretty neat. Kind of like a combo Flippin' bar and Twitchin' bar. You can pitch your lure out then "set the bail" with the Twitchin' bar. Super free-spinning wiffle spool. Only drawback I can think of is that I don't believe it has centrifugal brakes - only magnetic, which may or may not be a drawback! Very nice reels - go check them out. I know Gene has them at the Hook, Troy has them in Sac and I'm sure most shops will have them by now. I'd love to have one!

I have this on my list from Santa this year. If I'm lucky I'll be able to give you a review once I've had a chance to use it on the water. Just in time too as the Delta is going to muddy up from this system and the key to catching fish is going to be working very slow. I can definately see using this for fishing creature baits and jigs until prespawn hits.

Wifey went along with me on picking out my own Christmas present so I bought a powell rod and a viento reel from Limit Out in Clearlake Oaks. I set it up to use as a finesse jig rod but was'nt able to get out this weekend, I will put it to the test over Christmas weekend and post my thoughts.
