An example is that you are fishing in the back of Sand Mound and KVD pulls in. Would you stay and fish or would you leave?

Should I pull up and go to give them a wide bearth or should I stay and make them fish around me?

They are fishing to feed there families and make a living. It may not be KVD, it may be that young 19 year old rookie trying to make a living or it could be a guy who is struggling to survive on tour.
For me, it's an easy decision, give it up and probably either leave or hang out and watch!
These guys are fishing for a living, WRL, no offense but..........
Just my .02
Well said. I frequent the Delta almost every weekend and I wouldn't abandon a spot just because a Pro wanted to fish it. Like most people I work hard during the week and expect a good time fishing on the weekends. On the flip side it's not right to crowd any fisherman because he's doing good. Ie. fish 100 ft behind KVD. What is a good respectable following distance?kopper_bass wrote:Hollywood,
with all the respect bro, but this is the most ridiculous position for anyone to have on this.
I drive to work everyday to make a living, but i dont see a dang single driver who is "fun" driving, going on vacation, or someone with a job less than me going and getting off the roads or out of my way so i can "feed my family". Really?
I am all for NOT interfering, NOT being as AS*, and showing everyday courtesy, but there is no reason for anyone to give up a spot, or move away, just because an Elite guy comes in to fish an area. WE ARE ALL OUT THERE - JUST FISHING! Until they close the lake to all traffic, all fishing, all recreation; then everyone has the right to be there as long as they found it on their own. I even think its more important to fish it if your in a tourney. the WRL is no less important to those participants than the elites are to those guys. It's all a game for us to enjoy!
These guys are professionals, and they know that there is going to be weekend traffic and locals using the water that they are competing on - that's part of the competition. All of them will surely be taking that into consideration; especially if the only fish they can find is a community hole like sandmound. KVD & the 19yr old rookie are all big boys playing a man's sport, dont treat them like babies. that just weakens the whole sport!
TDawg,
Go fish the WRL, and fish your water and have fun. Be courteous if someone comes in and asks you if they can fish too, you decide, but dont feel like you need to move. They will show you the same respect back knowing you found these fish on your own and know the Delta.
Whatever you do, dont go to water just cause the elite guy is there. that would be a No No.
Have fun,
Kopper
YOu got a boat again?Jason C. wrote:I will be fishing the even too, if one of the BASS guys comes up and asks If I can move, or back off, I will. Then I will ask him how far back do you want me, because I am in a tournament as well. They will tell me where and I will go there. If they come up and Im fishing and they dont ask me to move I'll treat it like another angler that comes up, and just enjoy fishin, and watching a pro at work! Its pretty simple in my opinion!

LMFAO! I disagree with BASS having their final 12 fishing on MY TOURNAMENT day...so not cool on their part...hahahaha!bassfisher wrote:I Don't agree with the WRL on having a tournament on the final day of the Elites, doesn't that tournament draw 100 boats or more?? I don't think guys on the WRL are trying to make a living like the Elites, I understand there just another person fishing and the top pros are making big money, but there is guys struggling to try and make a name for themselves. In my opinion I think it is unedicate and disrespectful not to back off if an Elite pulls up and wants to fish. People just don't have a conscience anymore.
No Im fishin with Scott J, this time though we are fishing out of the Inland Marine boat! Ill be out there Friday-Sunday fishing. Im hoping where I will be pre-fishing I run into some of the pros on the water, so I can watch how they attack it. I am not going to openly seek them out but if I pull up to one of the spots I want to go to, I will keep off quite a bit, do my thing and watch them do theirs!ash wrote:YOu got a boat again?Jason C. wrote:I will be fishing the even too, if one of the BASS guys comes up and asks If I can move, or back off, I will. You need to get out of their way at once, they are superior, and you are nothing! Forget the fact that you paid the gas, entry fees, hotel etc. When the Elite guys are fishing the Delta you must stay home, its their RIGHT! They need to earn their living. Your money, or possible winning on that day mean Zilch! LMAO!Brian wrote:They chose their profession and all that goes with it.
I wouldn’t encroach, but I’ll be damned if I’m going to move out of the way! Especially if by some slim chance I’m actually catching fish on the delta, something I haven’t seem to be able to do this year. LOL![]()
Nope, there is alot of water out there, they can go somewhere else.
Very sensible approach. Treat them just like you would like to be treated. If by some slim chance you are on AMart's sweet spot why not let him play through? No, you don't owe him a thing but you can be sure you will learn something. Something probably more valuable than winning the tournament.TomL wrote:If it were me - I'd ask the guy - "Hey, I am in a tournament too - but, small bucks compared to your's. You want me to get out of here?"
A. Gives you a chance to talk to them if only briefly.
B. It shows them you understand the sport and have respect for their JOBS
C. There is a good chance they'll say something like - "I'd like from that dock down... you can fish the rest if you want it." Then you can still fish the area and enjoy a show at the same time.
Most (if not all) of the Elite guys are super cool and deserve our respect for water for a few days (on the Delta and on Clear Lake) every couple years.
It sucks to have a tournament on the same body of water as them on the same day - but, there are only so many weekends for all the events we have out here... so I get it.
The fact you are asking this says a lot about who you are. I am sure there are guys fishing the same event as you that will
A. Fish an Elite Angler's spot and feel more like it's their spot and the Elite Angler should leave it for them.
B. Try to compete with them (weigh more than they do for the day)
C. Will prefish via internet (photos, videos etc of the Elite event) or bent rod method - meaning drive around the day before and look for the Pro's with the Bent Rods (fish on) then fish that area for the tournament.
Hopefully, there aren't many of those guys - but, then again - I'd like to think there aren't many who would cut someone off on the freeway either etc... etc... Some people just don't care about anyone but themselves whether its anglers, golfers, bowlers, doctors, lawyers, business owners, drug addicts - you name it. There are selfish people in all walks of life and you apparently aren't one of them!
Have fun and good luck
catch a few blimps!
There is no "THEIR WATER" The Delta is a public waterway. Some people seem to think that cause some guy has some patches on his shirt, or has won a lot of money fishing they should have the right away! Thanks for clearing that UP!bassfisher wrote:I think the originator of this post has a consience, but some of the other posts are just ridiculous with the GIANT EGOS OF HAVING CONTROL OF "THEIR WATER" , must feel good to have control of something? Treat others as you want to be treated. Don't think you would like it if you flipped the situation.![]()
Love this sport but man there is alot of weirdos. Do what you gotta do
Just Remember KHARMA
