Cabela's Advanced Angler AGM Batteries

Anyone use these? Good quality and long lasting? I'm looking for an AGM battery for use on a kickboat and really don't want to exceed 60lbs. I was looking at the Odyssey and Optimas, but the 60lb ones have a lower reserve capacity than I'd like, 142 min and 155 min, respectively. The 60lb Cabela's has 180 min.

When you sacrifice weight in a battery you are all ways giving up something, usually quality. I have found in forty years of dealing with every battery out there that testing has proven many times the many battery suppliers batteries test below their advertized ratings while others such as Napa & Optimas test well above the specs. Be very suspicious when a battery is comparative light or lower priced.


Agm batteries do not have as much reserve when new as a lead acid battery but after a year or more of service they will be stronger than the lead acid and will last at least twice as long, as long as you recharge them at low rate ( less than 15 amps ). Use blue tops onley. Napa also provides optimas at competitive prices.

I have a set of the Advanced Angler group 27s on my boat.
When I first got them, I thought they were amazing. They lasted a really long time.

I have an onboard charger and charge right when I return from each trip.

Over time, the run time dropped and after about 20 months, my batteries would be dead after about 5 hours on the Delta.

They are about 34 months old now. I'm still running them because I'm cheap, but I have to conserve every trip out. I try to fish with the wind all the time (even if the breeze is light).

I can kill them in about four hours, or if I conserve as much as possible, I can get about ten hours of fishing in.

I would not buy them again.

I read an e-mail that was forwarded to me from Mercury that stated that when tested these batteries do not meet the stated specifications.

I think its a function of weight, more lead = more capacity.

Not cheap, but 205 min reserve and big time cranking amps.
