Does anyone ever get good fishing equipment deals on EBAY?

Post by Rich hamilton »

Just wondering? Looks pretty pricey with shipping costs.

I have bought some rods and reels off of ebay. They both turned out great. You just have to look for deals on the stuff you like. I got 5 brand new rods for $100. All IM8 6'6" MH BPS Extream Rods. I used to like that rod but have moved on to mostly using 7'ers now.
Still a great deal

I bought a Carrot Stix drop shot rod new in the package for $72. guess the guy didn't like the price. He broke it in the ceiling fan as he was packing it to ship. I checked his zip code. They weather was 76, no reason to have a ceiling fan running. He had sold 6 items. I told him to send it or bad juju.

My feed back knocked him back to 85%. He wrote me a hate note filled with profanity. I sent that to eBay and they dropped him like a hot rock.

I've used it a lot and that's the only bad time and I got my money back. I got a brand new Minn Kota at cost because I was the only bidder.

I've bought a lot of fishing stuff off eBay. Bought 3 or 4 rods and tons of lures. Best buy was a brand new Powell rod for $50 that retailed for $190 (my max was $100 but no one else bid on the rod).

Never had any problems. You never know when you'll get a bargain.

EBAY ROCKS!

I've said it once and I'll say it again, if you can't find it on ebay, it doesn't exist. I've gotten some excellent deals on reels made in Japan before they hit the American market. The only downside to ebay that is coming soon (as has everything else), is a major seller fees increase starting the 1st of April. This will probably drive a lot of ebay sellers out of the market. Looks like craigslist is going to be the next greedbay.

I bought a bunch of old, used discontinued reels. Took them to repair, right away. Many were buzzbaited on the pinion. The funny part was, the reel tech was giving me the lecture about engaging the gears while the spool was still spinning, and I was saying,

"I did not do that..."

"Yes you did!"

"Wait..."

"You need to stop it with you thumb..."

"You don't understand I bought these USED!"

It was pretty funny after he figured out these reels were messed up, but new to me.

The selling part went really well, with old videos, worms, hardbaits etc. The worms are a real problem due to weight. You fill a box full of worms, and that sucker is going to be HEAVY. Hardbaits have more air in them than lead, and the buyers really know if it is a super cool Lucky Craft, or other exotic Japanese lure. Way better than a typical garage sale, where you might get a buck for each one, painfull part outs of boxes, or just scoffs at the prices from non bass fishermen.

I put together a big box of maybe 60 hardbaits (nothing from sponsors), odd Japanese lures, striper hardbaits, or just things I fished with and did not like. Lures that wanted dainty wrist twitch action, etc. And figured that at a garage sale I might get lucky enough to sell baits for a buck a piece. And decided the minimum was going to be 50+shipping. The lot went for about 250 plus shipping? I became an Ebayer.

Haven't sold anything fishing lately this was a several years ago. But I have been active on Ebay messing around with old bike parts or BMXer parts from the 70s-80s.

I got a silver Curado for $75.00 and another for $80.00 a Revo SX-HS for $105.00.
I got a 1000 yd spool of Invisix for $55.00.
You have to know the retail prices for things and factor in the shipping. Selling rods on Ebay is really difficult. I did not price the shipping correctly and cost myself some $$.

I would be interested in the "return" policy on those (if there is one) and how that shipping might factor in? Obviously, I'm not up on the eBay scene, but I am aware of a little flaw in some otherwise good sticks that I'd like to protect myself from.

GKramer,
The return policy is dependent upon the seller. Some sellers allow return while other do not. Majority of sellers have a picture or multiple pictures of the item. You can ask the seller basically any question about the item.

Like the return policy, what the seller charges for shipping the same item varies alot. I've bought a lot of DVDs and the shipping charges for one DVD has varied from $1.98 to over $10.00. Some buyers will sell their item at a low price but get you with the shipping.

If you pay through PayPal, they will guarantee your satisfaction. After I bought an item, the seller got off kicked off eBay and didn't ship my stuff. I waited 3 weeks and contacted PayPal. They had the sellers info and contacted him. When he didn't ship my stuff, PayPal refunded my money and went after the seller.

You have to be an informed buyer and not get caught up in the frenzy of bidding. If you don't read the entire ad for the item being sold, you will pay for it...

Question for EBAY sellers... how do you pack and ship rods? I have 17 rods (all quality) just taking up space. I have been wanting to try to sell them but never found to the time. I'd like to give Ebay a try... thanks in advance.

All of the ones that I bought were shipped in 3 inch plastic piping that you can buy at any hardware store. Some of them just taped the ends while others used caps that you can buy. When it came to packing the rods, all of them put sponge like material at both ends so that the rod did not move and sorta protected the rod if it was dropped on the ends. Some of them wrapped some bubble wrap around the rod. None of the rods were damaged.

Sometimes the price gets too high...then you just gotta say "No"

But some outstanding buys like a 400 Calcutta $38--then sent to Shimano for cleaning and they added some new washers and replaced a gear---like brand new and whole total including reel <$75.
I've purchased 8 G Loomis rods-- 6 brand new and always been 65% or less than retail.

Bad news for sellers though, there rates are increaseing!!

Seller will pay posting charge and 9.0 seller fee!! That's going to make it over 10%!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

$1.00 on $10.00!!!

$10.00 on $100.00 etc!!!!!!!!

This is going to suck and probably end a lot of people selling on Ebay!!
