Funny part of this whole mess is there have not been any other lakes contaminated other than the pipeline lakes and the rest of the Country is the same way. When they allow moored boats I can see the concern. Day use boats do not transfer Quaggas.

I'm sure the DFG has metrics on how many trailered boats trying to get on CA Lakes have been found infected with Quaggas. I'd venture a guess that number would be in the single digits.

In a nutshell...I got clowned.

I'm not trying to hate on anyone but the guy (won't mention his name) wigged my plug stem in and out of the hole until he get some water drops to come out.

Then he asked me..."what are these drops in my hand".

Then he put a flash light down the barrel of my prop and said "I think I see moisture in there". This was at 7am on a misty morning coming from south OC. Hmmm....(rolling my eyes)

Had a long talk with the Manager/Owner Dave as I wasn't happy. Nice guy but he stood behind his guy. He though he told me a few weeks ago on the phone that "each inspection is a judgement call by each of his guys" and I think we'd all agree thats the truth. If they have a bad day or want to flex there muscles...we're screwed w/o any system of checks and balances.

Oh well...my 3 drops of water and prop barrel moisture didn't equal "clean and dry" technically so I guess I'm a bad boy....

Been turned away twice now in 2.5 years...twice in a row, by the same guy. I dropped of Buffalo Wild Wing coupons to all of them before too...guess this guy didn't get any or got a bad batch of wings or something...lol.

Skinner is off the hook right now however. Worm and jig did it for me and my client Rene. Made the best of it and didn't let it ruin my day.

See you guys at DVL in 8 days...(since the 7 day quarrentine is really an 8 day deal b/c they don't count the day they kick you off).

Can't win them all....

Yeah, CLEAN AND DRY means just that. No amount of coupons for whatever is going to help you. If they don't do their jobs then they are out of one. Sucks that it's this way but come on people, it's not your first rodeo. Just take the time and do what they are asking. Even though I have my boat tagged I do the same drying as though it's not tagged. Tags come off and people take them off so I just take the half hour the night before to shop vac all the water out of the lines and around the outboard areas then back that up with towels. Half hour and I'm done, no worries!! It's not rocket science people!!!!!!!

Guy: I have a false floor over my bilge area; 3 batteries and a charge mounted on top of the false floor...show vac'ing is a 2 hour job. You volenteering to help? I'm game any time if you are bud and I'll even give you chicken wings for helping. (lol...kidding arnd)

I saw 3-4 other guys driving down hill w/ their boats as I came up Friday (and Phua and I saw the same thing today as well) and so they're definitely turning away a lot of people daily.

I didn't deny I had 3 drops of water come out of my bilge when he rattled by plug in and out...but I'm not going to beat around the bush...rattling my plug for 20 sec's to get water to come out is BS in my opinion, my client's opinion that day, and 2 other inspectors who said they would not have stopped me for that. Just stating the facts.

And the moisture in the prop barrel at 730am...come one...thats BS too. Never even heard anyone say anything like that.

I told David the owner and the inspector that same thing in a respectful but truthful way.

The owner David said "its a judgement call each time by the inspector" which is obviously is completely.

If anyone's saying this guys wasn't being a "cowboy" about his job then personally I'd disagree. He was power trip on me. That said...he is the law and I'll get those 3 drops out next time.

Like I said...I didn't loss any sleep over it and still had a great day at Skinner.

I'm surprised people here even care this much about it to be honest. I've spent more time here thinking about it then I have all weekend. lol...

next time you bribe a person why don't you stick a C NOTE in the plug area instead of coupons. money always speaks louder than coupons especially when your stealing money from people trying to guide a CNOTE is chump change compared to what you clown people for your guide service.

If all this Clean and Dry is new to you all, it means to be totally dry (no water, moisture, haze or dew) and very clean (no dirt, mud or plants). All I know, some are doing what they need to do to fish. DVL is not Cachuma or Casitas until you make them be that way. If I was your client I would have put blame on you not the staff doing a job they where hired to do. If David had a problem with the guy's inspection he would not be working for him anymore lossing income from turning boats away. Get with the program dude!! It's nothing new!!! Sounds like your 4 years late in this program. BTW, it's told that one table spoon of water can infect a lake. Who knows but I want to fish DVL not Perris, Skinner and Elsinore.

You guys are something else!!! I can understand James side of this 100%.

Fact is, They can turn away anyone including you Guy. I bet if I was on a power trip I could find a drip SOMEWHERE on your boat (no matter how dry you keep it).

I know I have never had 1 inspector even touch my plug. They lean down and see the plug pulled look in the well and say go ahead. If they rattled my plug jerking it in and out the could have gotten what they wanted.

And what do you guys mean by taking someone else's guide money?? Just curious..

Guy,

My point is that they could find a drop on every single boat if they wanted too (no matter how dry you keep it). In every job people have a bad day and take it out on everyone else. Like I stated in my last post, I have never had a DVL inspector touch my plug or do anything else but look in the well's for a brief second.

If their moods were differant in any way they could have looked for gold and found it.

Do you get where I am going with this. They could look at your fender well and find moisture from a puddle you hit on the highway and your done.

The guide money comment came from Hippie, I have heard it from others too. I was just showing my concern that some guys may feel entitled to guide trips over others and thats BS..

If you look at how it is at Cachuma and Casitas DVL is not bad, just doing what they are taught and told by the DWP. I would be pissed if some guy's get DVL closed because they don't want to take the time to be water free first most and clean second. At Casitas they would look under the trucks bumper for dirt and water. If some just don't get it as to what the DWP could do with the lake and the inspection process they need to wake up. Just like if you think of getting your boat washed at skinner with the quagga spray and show up at DVL the next you will be turned away if you are truthful about being at skinner or Mead for that matter. Is it right or wrong is not what I care about, it's doing what is asked because it effects us all the same way. If David has a problem with his staff doing the inspection a certain way then he could move the guy off that job and get someone else to do it. Bottom line is, either it's done the way the water department wants it or they will close it.

I said stealing money not clients. I wouldn't pay any of you kooks that guide at DV 1 cent. I cant believe people pay you guys. Its crazy to me. Maybe the only one is art berry, only casue hes a 90% check cashing full on the lake. The rest of you should go get real job, and stop lieing to IRS on how much you make from guideing

AGAIN...

I understand every point you have made 1,000%.

I am stating that the inspection varies on the inspectors attitude. Why hasn't he looked at my boat the way he has looked at others. What I am saying is that there is no real system for every boat that comes in. They just choose to look harder at some boats than other's.

Its just unfortunate for alot of guys and lucky for some.

But the only thing we can do is keep our boats as dry as possible and hope there is no mist or puddles on the way to the lake.

I got booted two weeks ago because they rattled my prop until water dripped down the inside. Infact it wasnt even a drop of water. He actually saw a shine when he put his light down my prop in the am. He saw a sheen that he thought was moisture and said I was a no go. I dropped my motor up and down in my driveway at home a good 7 times before I left the house. My motor was stored in the garage trimmed down all week. I then did it again when I got to the lake and no drops came out. He found some, so i lose. Was it a super ridiculous inspection?.. yes.. did he find water?.. yes. I lose. No big deal. Hooked up the boat and went to Hodges and slayed some fatties. There are big fish in every lake. DVL is not the only show in town. I personally prefer to fish wherever I want. Its part of the gamble nowadays and I realize that. No need to cry about it. Its what we got to do to fish nowadays. If you want to be locked down to one lake, when you get on DVL get banded. If you want to bounce around from pond to pond you are going to roll the dice. I was Super clean and dry and the guy found a drop. It is what it is. The pony show at DVL will be coming to close again real soon if they dont get anymore water anyways. Why do you think they made everyone sign a disclaimer when they sold the new passes? Why would they make people do that if they planned on staying open?

as far as the dudes attitude. The dude was super cool about it and its his job I understand that. His exact words were "Sorry bro, I hate kicking out cool people". I said no worries bro its your job, He then said "Im glad you're being cool about it, some people are tools out here". I can see now the poor crap this kid has to deal with by doing his job.
Im not going to ruine some kids day by talking to his manager because he is doing his job. That sounds like a pretty lame way to spend your day, I dont want to spend my morning stomping my feet and crying. Could have made a few extra casts somewhere else while you were making a scene. Just my .02

DVL is definatly a great lake and they are doing their jobs in keeping it mussel free. But like you said, there are alot of lakes that are just as fun. DVL is one of our premier lakes but definatly no the only place to fish.

(off subject but)
I moved to Florida 4 1/2 years ago thinking Cal (DVL, Delta & Clear) was a big fish paradise and best in the world. But then I saw that the grass wasn't greener over here. I can honestly say I learned what bass fishing was all about fishing where our fish came from. There is a section of the everglades in Ft. Lauderdale where 25lbs almost year round wont cash a check. If it wasn't a 2 lane launch ramp and parking for 50. Big venues could go there and destroy all records....

Jason (Hippie) - Shop vac the hole...good idea. I'll do that. And stop hating on the guides G. (lol)

Truth be told...I just started guiding and I just do it for fun as I get a lot of inquires at events. I honestly like all the guides out here I've met and I have no issues passing off guide trips to someone who wants them or needs them. I got hit up at BPS a few weeks ago and I told the two brothers to check out Pete's service since he had a booth at the show (I did this w/ a few people). I happen to be able to provide for my family just fine right now and even if I didn't guiding wouldn't be how I would choose to provide for them (nothing against guys who do that either).

John: A lot of things are "high on my menu"...I'm a big guy and I eat a lot. lol... Good stuff bro.

Guy: Not sure if you're kidding arnd or not, but you seem the most passionate on this topic. I'm not sure why you say "get w/ the program dude" (to me) when you've been turned away too. Its just a mistake I made. I didn't start this conversation here pal. I admitted I had drops of water in the boat and I treated the owner and the inspector with respect while being truthful about my concerns...they didn't listen and I can live w/ that. I hope we don't have a problem as I'm not clowning you in any way. If so, I'm not an internet trash talker so just call me (714 929 7672) or walk up to me at the lake side some day and lets talk face-to-face and square things up.

I got turned away on Friday from DVL. Yep, I shop vac'd and stuffed towels and raised and lowered the motor a few times but the guy put his hand down into the bilge, the bottom of the boat and felt around until he felt moisture. Crazy. Never had the guys inspect that close when I was in line to fish a tournament.

Ya well could you imagine the turnouts if they went that deep tournament morning. 70 boats show 44 are turned away. That would be great for the fields. I wonder why tournament day is just brief checks....

I have never been turned away, not at any lake. Not Perris, DVL, Castaic or Casitas. Not once, so please tell me where I have been. This should be good. Please do tell!! I have been advised by Cachuma that all boats in my area would be subject to a 14 day waiting period if I wanted to fish there after they inspect my boat but yeah no dice Cachuma I'll fish elsewhere.

As long as you didnt hit any sprinkler overflow puddles along the way or hopefully didn't drive thru any marine layer mist, or no one coughs on it. Then, you might have a chance.

To make sure my outboard doesn't drip water when I drop it, I usually take an air compressor and shoot air through the water ports. This usually gets everything out. I also run a fan for a couple hours into the bottom of my boat to make sure there is zero moisture.

Screw the stupid tags they give you when you leave. They should just shrink wrap every boat that leave's. LOL...

Ohhh wait......You would get to much condensation inside the shrink wrap. They would say you used it somnewhere and just left the shrinkwrap on.
