Fluro recommendation?

Post by ACRon »

Getting ready to strip and dump the Vanish Fluro on a couple of spinning reels. To be used for dropshot, tubes and dart heads. 8 lb test is what I normally use on these.

I am not happy with the excessive line twist and memory. I am faithful about manually flipping the bale and not winding against the drag . I don't reload as often as alot of you guys since I don't get out as much. When not on the water the reels are in the garage in a cabinet so they don't get hit with sun or much heat.

Looking for your guys recommendations for 8 lb. Fluro.

Thanks,
Ron

Ron, Try using braid on one of your spinning setups with a little wind on of fluro or just a short topshot, you'll love it, no more line twist and just change out the leader, see what you think, then if you likey you can switch them all over or dump the braid, don't think you will, Dave

I'm still trying to work the fluoro onto the spinning rods, but the P-Line Fluoroclear has treated me very well, its pretend Fluoro, but it is absolutely majestic on the spinning reels.

+1 for Sunline Super FC Sniper. Use some KVD Line & Lure with it and you're good to go.

Not all 8# test line are created equal ... 6# Berkley 100% fluorocarbon has the same diameter as 7# Sunline ... or some other brand's 8# line.

Rod, Not sure if this was asked to me but i'll add to this,I stick close to the same diameter, for my light spinning, I like 10 or 15 power pro, but I've just picked up some Visous braid to try out, so 10 pd PP with 6 pd Sugoi fluoro. and for bait casters 20 pd PP and 10 or 12 pd Sugoi fluoro. the 10 pd power pro is about the dia of pd and the 20pd PP is of 6pd mono.
heres a link to some great info on use of Power Pro and fluoro for use of spinning gear.
Hope I didn't hijack Rons thread...

I've been using some Japanese braid with the fluorocarbon topshot I like sniper, shooter, sunline fluorocarbon for dropshotting, senkos etc... and has been awesome... however I have also tryed flouroclear and Im hooked, it casts great, gets bit, strong and dosent do that line freak out off the spools, if the waters too clear like DVL or castias and Im really not getting bit at all I'll put 6ft of 100% fluorocarbon onto flouroclear and its a dream if I need the little bit of stretch, dropshotting, splitshot, senkos, c-rig, jigs

gotta go fish now lol

I am in agreement with DaveH go with Braid and then Fluro leader. I am more loyal to this than any rod or reel I own. If I need stretch I go to 1 power lighter rod but I make sure I have my braid as I have tried about 12-14 brands of Fluro and have been disappointed with all but blackwater but at that price I am not putting it on too many of my reels...so I use it for leader. WORKS WONDERS together Braid + Fluro = Forever LMAO

I will use Pline, Berkley 100% Flouro, and Maxima Flouro and have similar results with all. I think the main thing when using the lighter lines is proper spooling and making sure when u tie your knots they are well lubed up so there is no friction around the knot.

My 2 cents...

The seagar tatsu stuff is by far the best flourocabon on the market. But it comes in a box made of unobtainium that runs 50 bucks. Seagar carbon pro is second. From there I just run p-line flourocabon. The fouroclear is just coated and not a true flourocarbon, but it is hands down the best handling line I know.

Braid to flouro carbon, I use the power pro ace hollow core. I pre tie leaders and use a loop to loop conection. No knots, 100% line strength. Just takes forever to pre tie. And 40# is as light a hollow as they make, so it doesn't cast as well as straight flourocarbon, but it's close.

And truth be told, I waist to much money switching stuff around and always return to what works. Seagar carbon pro, p-line flouro carbon, p-line cxx, and berkley easy cast. And all that stuff is affordable.

I only bought a couple of spools of the og FC Sniper. I've tried finding info on how the new FC Sniper compares, but no dice.

I've noticed that the new sniper, while having the same handling characteristics, does not last as long as the og. MAybe I'm imagining this. I think it is a slightly different formulation and those 200 yd spools suck. I hope they go back the the old spools

ACRON I am not sponsored by this line any more and it will be soon unavailable. Gamma Touch I believe is still available at TW. All by customers that have swithed to it rave about it. Some of the above mentioned lines are way to stiff. If you hear it going through the guides on a cast you are screwed. This stuff is limp and super strong. Try the 7 lb. test.
