Rouge,

Aluminas are good reels. For the best bang for your buck, go with the Serrano or Cayenne. Yes they cost more but they are worth the price. I have been fishing these reels for a while now and dont like using my Aluminas anymore.. Where are you located? if you in my area we can go fishing and you can try them out. If you have anymore Q's just PM me

Sorry to hi-jack this thread. I really have no experience with the new Okuma reels other than what I read at TT. But ... for my money, the BEST BANG for the BUCK HAS to be (if you can still get them) the new limited availability BPS Pro Qualifier TOURNAMENT reels at $80 a copy. They're as light as the near $300 2010 Revo Premiers and fish FANTASTIC. A close second would be the BPS Carbonlite reels. They're at $120 a copy. But again, casting and performance ... WOW. These also interchange parts from the Revo/pFlueger lineups as well. So no worries about getting parts for the reel.

Both Cayanne and Serranos have Factory rebates right now and the Serrano has a three year factory rebate. For my money I wouldn't touch a BPS reel. If you have ever dealt with them on a warranty issue you would understand. This is not hijacking the highjacker, just stating facts.

I fish the BPS reels on some of my rods now. Granted, much older models than what was posted here. But I agree they are difficult to service with age. Im not a fan of the drag systems in my BPS reels, save one, an older Johnny Morris model given to me by a friend. And you can't upgrade or buy new drags like you can for Okuma, because you have to send the reel to BPS for service. At that price, spend a little extra and buy a Shimano Citica E. Good reels, fairly light. The Revos of the same price range are great reels to. If you can afford the Cayenne or Serrano, they are good reels. I worked at a shop for two years that carried the Aluminas. Several came NIB with drag, spool, and frame issues. They have improved in quality, but you can get a much better reel for a little more money, IMO

I've had a Serrano for a month now, and it's great, so far.
Casts great, easy to adjust, smooth.
I bought it because it's light, lots of bearings, 3 year warranty, and a $30 rebate.
And the large capacity and wiffle spools are interchangeable, so for another $18 plus shipping I can switch line sizes easily on the water as I need to.

I have the Serrano and all I can say is BLEH... not that great of a real in comparison to others in the same price range. ($170) ...biggest complaint is with the "velocity control system" which is kinda cheaply made. Real casts smooth and has a decent distance, but is just not quite at the 200 dollar real level yet.

The BPS Pro Qualifier Tournament is a limited edition reel being sold till their out for $80 a copy. This one in the picture is modified with the Revo Skeet drag star and handle. The BPS Carbonlite is on the BPS Site is basically the same as the PQT with a different paint job and a carbon fiber handle ... but for 50% more money!!
