Off Limits poll
Off Limits poll
It has been printed in the WON schedule that for the San Diego region the WON Bass team tournament for April 17th was to be on Lake Hodges. This is not correct.
The April 17th team tournament for the WON Bass San Diego region will be at Lake Otay. Lake Otay is the location.
This correction to Lake Otay should be on the WON Bass.com site and possibly in the WON Bass News soon.
Apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused any fishermen.
Now we are working on the 2011 season and need some input from you the fishermen. The first poll is on Off-Limits:
"Should the event lakes be off limits the weekdays before a team event"? Yes or No

Ah hell, the off limits thing again? This horsey has been killed, skinned and ate'n!! Good luck with this poll. Maybe do a search when it came up last year or the year before that. Stop wasting time and get some dates that we can count on so many of us can make plans or not!!!

off limits is a non issue. Tell Harvey to talk to Brian L. about it. I thought the date was on the website. I thought they were going to New Melones as well.

Re: Off Limits poll
Ray... Brian told us that the TOC date was changed agin..
It was 1st put on top of the ABA classic, then it was moved, then it was put on the NBW Havasu classic, now its been moved again according to Brian.
WON needs to get their stuff together before its too late... and its close to too late for alot of anglers that are unhappy with them.

Off Limits poll
Thanks for the "help" guys. I do appreciate the references. I don't live on this forum. From what I can make out from the references supplied, fishermen favored off-limits by a margin of 75% to 25%.
I guess this is a sore subject for some of you guys but why hi-jack the topic to vent your WON Bass frustrations?
What I'm looking for are the opinions of San Diego fishermen fishing or those guys from out of the area that fish tournaments in San Diego.
For those of you that can't expression a rational opinion on the subject at hand, go home and beat the dog, yell at the significant other or lock yourself in the car in the middle of traffic and start yelling.
If after that, you can come to terms with your emotions, and still wish to do so, post an opinion why or why not this would work for you if you make it down to San Diego to fish tournaments. Please realize San Diego City lakes are not open every day.
Your opinion might also influence prefishing for the El Cajon Ford San Diego Team Open and other freshwater events held on San Diego City lakes. Nothing more....nothing less.
For those who respond, thank you for your time to put together an opinion.

Re: Off Limits poll
Hey, since you obviously you did not read all the posts maybe you should. 75 percent for off limits before and maybe 75 percent against off limits after it went into effect. BTW, nice side step around the real won bass issues!!

Re: Off Limits poll
I am FOR the off limits Monday thru Thursday. So much negativity out there. Every single one of these organization have had small to major issues over the years . . . which one is still here, for me anyway, 20 years later? I am not a great advocate of WON by any means. I gave them another chance last season and again this season and almost told them to go pound sound myself after one of Harvey's statements to me, so I decided to give em another chance. Time will tell.
Re: Off Limits poll
That is funny!!!! The off limits did not work last time, period.... And with the economy as tuff as it is and the lakes looking for a reason to shut us out why make it harder on the lakes and the merchants. Besides if ANY org goes to off limits the ones that dont will clean up! So John, please tell Harvey dont do it. Team event participation is driven by 2 things, payback #1 and cust service #2. Re: Off Limits poll
John, you should poll every team that fishes your event on the 17th and see what they say. If the majority want an off limits for your region, then listen to the fishermen and do it.
The key here though is that WON would be making a mistake by imposing this across the board. The Godfather is dead on when he says that the other orgs will clean up if WON goes to an off limits.

Re: Off Limits poll
The big problem I see with off limits is this..... Too many people work on weekends now and take time off to fish a tournament on a weekend day. They have days off during the week and that is when they pre fish. If you make an off limits then you cut off there pre fish.

Re: Off Limits poll
I have to agree with Ray here.
for many years i was a working man with very little time off. so at championship time I took a great deal of my vacation leave and went to fish the championship.
bottom line for a lot of people-- prefish and the championship is thier vacation for the year!
couple that with the cost of hotels and gas its not very effective to split your vacation time, yes a person can get lucky and have a couple good days on the water but face it most tournaments are won in the hard work that is put into your prefish.
Won Bass should take a hard look at these issues!
if a off limits absolutly has to be imposed, make the lake off limits for a month before the tounament and have a official four day prefish before the tournament, works pretty well for a couple of the bigger org's. this also will condition the up and comming anglers how will one day fish at that level. This is kinda how the military works you train like you fight, so when your in the mix its second nature and you dont even think you react.
this is the one thing all the orgs do wrong-- pick FLW or the Bassmasters rules and use that set of rules the inconsistancy of rules out west are really hurting every one. when I fished back east 15 years ago --Bassmaster rules were the rules--
just my two cents-

Off Limits poll
Again this poll is focused on team fishermen fishing San Diego City lakes.
Here's the deal with the San Diego City Lakes....
There are three lakes down here large enough to run team tournaments on.
They are not open 7 days a week.
Otay & Hodges - Wed, Sat & Sun
El Capitan Thurs-Monday
The lakes are user fee supported. Off limits cuts into city lake program revenues.
Open for prefishing only the day before the tournament does not always work.
Off limits periods level the playing field for the everyday fisherman. Team fishing was designed for the "weekend warriors" not necessarily the "pros". Team fishing was designed to be the minor league for those aspiring to fish at the next level. For working fishermen, to take off from work to prefish team events is difficult if not nearly impossible especially in this economy.
Off limits are hard to enforce...tournament officials can not monitor the lake 24/7. Not enough comps!
Cheaters will find a way to cheat....off limits or not.
From the prospective of a tackle store owner, fishermen purchase a lot of stuff for prefish periods looking for those couple of lures that are going to work on tournament day and than buy again just before the tournament.
So with off limits who wins and who loses?
Pro/AAA events, Opens, Fish-offs and the such may need to be looked at differently than Team fishing when talking about off limits.

Re: Off Limits poll
John,
I would guess that off-limits would be detrimental to your program in San Diego. Odds are you would be stopping a few teams from fishing one day. You are already very limited in recreational fishing in San Diego and taking another day away from the fishermen and the lakes would be counter productive for growing your orginization. I doubt you would gain ANY additional anglers fishing if you put an off-limits in place and I suspect you would lose some anglers. Now you might be eliminating a common excuse for a teams poor showing but it is simply an excuse for those teams. There are no winners with off-limits. Lakes lose revenue, tackle stores lose business, fishing rights have another restriction placed upon them and YOUR anglers lose a day ont the water they could be enjoying. A Wednesday prefish is not much better than a Sunday prior prefish so the advantadge for a team that is prefishing during the weekend instead of the weekend prior is fairly small.

Re: Off Limits poll
See this is why this talk will NEVER be resolved. Then you will have the other part of people that work Monday-Friday and don't have time to take away from work and don't get to pre-fish. I am in this category...but i am not going to be a WANKER about it.Ray L. wrote:The big problem I see with off limits is this..... let the directors do as they do. I fish the casitas circuit and due to my job can't fish during the week what so ever. i get Saturday and Sunday if lucky. I for one SHOULD BE for the off limits but whatever...it is how it is.
This like Guy said is a big old mess and its gone over a lot...yes or no there is NEVER going to be a happy medium.
Re: Off Limits poll
When this was tried last time John the same guys still won the team events. That is why saying it is a "workings mans" trail is not always true. The cream will always rise to the top and the good guys who always get the info and have the networking will win, off limits or not. Besides with the SD lakes closed part of the week, isn't that like off limits anyway? Dont do it, WON will get smoked and that is the BIG PICTURE. If you want a nice relaxing, no stress, fishing with your buddies, atmosphere, join a Bass Club. The money is too good to keep the good teams out of Team events these days. Rick G.
