Trolling motor Batteries - What brand?

Post by bigstick »

I need to replace my batteries and was wondering what you guys are running these days. I am currently running Trojans, but they are expensive to replace.

Thanks

If your going with std batteries the Interstate's have always been good to me. But I would spend the money and go with Blue Tops (optima)..

Another vote for Optima blue tops for the troller. Sears Diehard Platinum 31 for the cranker. It is nice now having maintenance free batteries.

All my batts are now blue tops. Kind of expensive but you get what you pay for.

Yea, let's stick to the weekly thread schedule, please:

Mon - Which trolling/cranking batteries should I buy?
Tue - What boat insurance carrier is best?
Wed -[Insert tournament org name here] and their payout really sucks!
Thu - Which Dobyns rod should I get?
Fri - Manager's Choice: Select Inflammatory Topic of choice!
Sat - Sea Lions, Corporate Ag and Southern CA are stealing our water!!!
Sun - I'm a patch pirate and I'm pushing [insert Wonder Product name here]!!!!

To keep this battery related, I just replaced a pair of Group 27 Trojan deep cycles with a set of cranking/deep cylces from Costco after 4+ years of good service. I'd have preferred straight deep cycles but they're not available in Group 27; the price was right and they seem to have a good reputation (need to pinch them pennies right now). Reserve capacity on the Costcos is less--you can tell just by comparing their respective weights. Those Trojans have a LOT of lead! I've also read that Trojan changed OEMs recently and/or their quality isn't quite the same anymore...

Strike up another vote for Optima. My blue tops are 6&1/2 years old and still going strong!

Costco Kirkland are $70 and are some of the best batteries made if you do the research. Used weekly, and taken care of (don't let them sit un-charged) are still going strong after 4 years. Group 27's have never let me down and have neber given out even after 10 hours in 30 knot wind and 3 footers

I have been using Everstart batteries from Walmart for a long time now. I haven't had any problems with them.

the 4 optima blue tops in my boat lasted less than 4 years! in my opinion, they are not worth the money!,go with everstarts or costco, interstates,it beats paying a grand for a set of 4 optimas....

Where do you get the grand for 4 blue tops ? there 160 bucks at costco that would make it 800 bucks for 4with some money left over for tampons
