DVL should not be on that list. What happened to the Delta?
Re: California's Best Fishing Lakes (Interesting)
What makes you say that..?Kevin wrote:DVL should not be on that list.
IMO, I think DVL is exactly where it should be.. Lakes 1 and 2 should be changed to Delta and Clear Lake.. 4 and 5 could be flip flopped with alot of lakes..

I don't know why he doesn't stop beating around the bush and just tell us what he really thinks.ash wrote:I think Mr. Hunt's statement was rather poignant.![]()

Why is the Delta even on there? It's a great fishery, but technically it's not a lake!! I can see Shasta being #1...it has good fishing for lots of species not just Bass. Tahoe at #2 is an odd choice though, I could see it maybe being #5.

DVL is good at times but shouldn't be on that list. Sure the quality is great but the fishing isn't actually that good. When is the last time you heard of anybody catching 40 - 50 + fish there? No, the floating sh!tters or wave attenuator doesn't count.

Re: California's Best Fishing Lakes (Interesting)
I'd try to keep it in perspective. The article focus was multi-species. And apparently other stuff like additional amenities and scenic view and what not factored in to determine the list.
Now some of that criteria might take DVL off the list, but for the fishing I think it might well deserve to be on a top 5 list, with argument or course. And the above criteria would certainly remove the Delta, as it's only so pretty ifn' ya know what I mean.
Almanor is a marvelous lake and again, from a multi-species prespective, it might deserve to be there also.
My thought would be does Tahoe really still belong such a list? Do they still catch the bigguns up there like they did 30-40 years ago? Beats me.
I think Berryessa is a great multi-species lake and the Delta is great for a lot except not so much anymore for steelhead and such and the salmon are a lot harder to find also.

I don't think he is far off. The Kokanee fishing at Tahoe can be so hot there that by the time the average person gets done with his hangover breakfast the boats are already back with limits. These lakes have a lot of guide business. Trout and smallie fishing at Almanor can be awesome. Shasta is a fish factory for many species. DVL is fantastic from what I see. And Clear Lake is well, Clear Lake. Four of the five are great family vacation spots!

Re: California's Best Fishing Lakes (Interesting)
If you go with multi-species and views, he has some good thoughts, but if you go with bass fishing, which most of us aim at, then his list is way off. Clear lake, Shasta, DV good. He should then add Trinity, Oroville, Berryessa to top off the best five. There are some other mid state and southern lakes that could fit in. Depends on travel, location and time. Bill K

Fun fishing the country, each and every week.
Re: California's Best Fishing Lakes (Interesting)
Top 5 best fishing lakes, it would be extremely difficult to name the top 10. Lake Tahoe is a beautiful natural lake, great vacation area, marginal multi specie fishery and doesn't belong in the top 10.
SoCals mountain lakes like Big Bear and Cayumaca are good multi specie fishing and vacation areas. Lake Casitas and Cachuma are also good multi specie fishing lakes with good camp grounds. Lake Havasu is another good mutli specie lake and good vacation area. Lake Isebella a good multi specie lake with the Kern river area for vacationers. DVL may be a good lake fish at times, it's not a good vacation area.
NorCal is hard to top for having both good multi specie lakes and vacation areas.
It's hard to pick the top 10.

Re: California's Best Fishing Lakes (Interesting)
Actually, the last time I fished dvl we caught well over 50+ fish and we didn't fish either one of those areas. I've only fished Tahoe and DVL off of that list, so I can't say much, but Tahoe was only good for water sports and scenery. Maybe that's cause we were stuck on shore and didn't know what we were doing. haha DVL is the best lake I've personally fished in CA, but I'm sure some of the others are better. The criteria for the list is what makes it interesting for me.Kevin wrote:DVL is good at times but shouldn't be on that list. Sure the quality is great but the fishing isn't actually that good. Re: California's Best Fishing Lakes (Interesting)
Perris in its heyday was better, IN MY OPINION, than DVL.
Re: California's Best Fishing Lakes (Interesting)
"Fishing" doesn't mean just bass fishing. If it said they were the top 5 bass fishign lakes in Ca, then obvoiusly that would not be right.
Re: California's Best Fishing Lakes (Interesting)
I have fished DVL a ton and have been on many bites where we have caught over 50 fish a day... great quality... with that being said.. CLear lake is BY FAR the best lake I have fished. If I could switch the two i would in the drop of a hat.
Create your own luck.
