Pyramid Cage
What's the latest on the cage that was found at Pyramid this last Saturday? I read about it on another site, but haven't been able to find out any more.

I want to say thank you to the angler who reported it to DFG !! I know who found it but will keep it to myself unless he says otherwise!
Thank you for taking the time to take a picture and report it to DFG

Re: Pyramid Cage
Actually the lake Sheriff pulled it and that messed the whole catching the cheater deal. To bad, it would have been good to get the cheaters but guess the lake Sheriff didn't want to hassle with that come the weekend.

Not suprising though, heck most lakes barely have the funding to keep the sheriffs on the water, let alone set up a sting for a guy cheating in bass tournaments.

I for one, would pay a little extra cash, so they could set and catch the culbrits. And I bet others would also. Re: Pyramid Cage
The Sherriff messed up. The Angler who found it had a great set up with the D.F.G. and the sherriff went out and found it and pulled it all on his own. I was told about it Sat. at Pyramid and the sherriff had his own agenda and would not say much else. Dam The angler had a great plan as well. We would have caught them this past weekend with the plan. Dam now we all have to look at all the anglers different. This really sucks. If you need to cage fish to win a small weekend event. You should not be fishing tournaments. The amount of money involved should not make a difference in the overall cost of fishing local events. If it does make a difference then you should maybe get a job.

Re: Pyramid Cage
Sad but this seems to happen other places as well. Many years ago I was practicing for a local team tournament(old West Coast Bass) went to a log I like to fish that seemed to always hold a nice fish early in the year. As I was getting closer I could see an old rope tied on to the log. At first I thought nothing of it because the locals tie buoys on some the logs that get covered in high water to avoid hitting them. I cast a jig to the log and as I picked up the line it was moving a bit side ways. I set the hook to feel something strange it felt like a fish but yet it was more dead weight and not really moving just getting some tugging back but just a few feet. As I approached the log pulling with my hand on the line, I was surprised at what I brought to the top. There were 5 pretty decent fish(about 13 pound worth) on the rope with a divers weight at the bottom. The fish looked a bit stressed and seeing as how I had my hands on this rig my first thought was release the fish(once I touched it I wanted no part of having a resident on the shore or another boat see me with the rig and fish in my hands). I was young at the time 20 years old and really had not had much experiance so I wasn't really thinking about catching the people who put it there. I realsed the fish and tossed the rig out into the deep. When I got home I called the tournament director to let him know what I had found. He told me I should have left it there so they could have watched it. I apologized for my ruining the oppertunity, but I told him the fish were my first concern. I explained where it was located if they wanted to watch the location. The tournament director chose to make an annoucement at the pre-tournament meeting instead. There will always be those that try to cheat at everything cards, sports etc. Perhaps if more get caught and the punishments are harsh it will deter those from trying!
Re: Pyramid Cage
The day before a NewBass TOC years ago at clear lake one of the anglers found a bunch of fish tied to docks up north, He cut them all loose. The areas were watched the next day but by the night before the first day, everyone and their brother knew about the fish so it was pointless to watch the docks............
If you find something like this, ONLY tell the TD, or DFG and let them set up on it.............. CATCH THESE GUYS they make me sick!

I really hope these SOB's get caught. I am interested in the upcoming tourneys or past few. The list of clubs should be small for a lake like Pyramid.

Re: Pyramid Cage
I never heard the outcome of that one myself and I was there. The org had to be carefull on how they took action(possibility of being sued).........which was basically nothing so the whole thing got brushed under the rug. Should have made a payout difference for my partner and I, so we requested some insight on what was going to happen next.......nothing. The same org changed a Travelers Region rule in the middle of the year......putting us out for 2005 AOY after previously getting AOY in 2003 and 2004 So. Ca. region Teams. If this is the same org involved, it wont surprise me. For good enough reasons we went to other orgs to compete. I also found a cage at Havasu a few years back and reported it to the DFG. I was thanked but never heard anything from that either......bummer, these people need to be caught and permanently banned from ALL competitive fishing in So. Ca.S. Re: Pyramid Cage
So here is where it stands . Talked to Fish and game officer that I was trying to work with on monday . He stated he had no idea as to why the cage was pulled prematurely . Talked to the LACS deputie at the lake today and he stated after talking with the DFG warden they mutually decided to " just eliminate the problem " by removeing it becouse they dont have the recorces to do what needed to be done . My partner once again called the DFG warden to compare notes . He once again denied that they agreed to remove the cage. I personally believe the warden . So whats up here ? Im keeping my opinion to myself on this for now .
After doing some research it looks real grim as for accually ever haveing enough evidence to procicute anybody for cheating in this manner, according to both officers , but it sure would have been nice to rid the guys from ever showing their faces at any more derbies.
Its not over yet on who is accountable for screwing this one up .
More to come .

It was tied to a bush very close to the water edge with braided line , The line had large splitshots on it to geep it on the bottom . it than was tied to a small section of rope and than to the cage . It was located in the first cove to the right leaving the marina . My partnener snaged it draging a splitshot worm parralel in pre fish . Anybody casting to the shore would have never found it .

Re: Pyramid Cage
I have been very disappointed with the Sheriffs at Pyramid.
I admit I don't know what their responsibilities are exactly, and they may be busy as beavers in their headquarters there, but their presence on the lake itself, like patroling, is non-existent.
I'm still amazed they let drunks ski and tube on that lake, and party on boats, with no consequences. Anyone who has ever made the mistake of trying to fish there on a holiday, like I did one year, will testify to how much stuff goes on without consequence.
They only seem to get involved when something bad happens, like the tuber who got towed into a boat by his drunk boater a few years ago.
It almost seems like they are afraid of having to actually work.
It is probably true that they don't have the resources to deal with the cage episode properly, but then they should have let DFG deal with it.

Ditto. I rarely see them patrolling. On a few occasions, I do see them when some clown in a jetski is doing circles by the ramp, then they get on speaker and tell them to come into the office. Re: Pyramid Cage
Maybe next time something like this is found, the finders could work together with fellow anglers to catch the cheaters in action. Instead of contacting the officials, a fellow angler could just sit on the cage during the event and use a camcorder to record the cheating in action. Record the initial find with photos and a witness, then set it back and wait for the scumbags to come back for it. That way you will have photo evidence of where the cage was found and a video of the cheaters that you can show to the TD and the DFG. Then you can post the video on westernbass.com and make them movie stars.
I know of a fellow tournament angler that has done something similar to this down here in San Diego.

Brian I thought the same thing, but the cage had no bait in it
Ive hid traps at pretty much every lake I fish and yes you do have to hide them because people will swoop them in a heart beat.. but I never hid a trap with no bait in it, plus for catching crawdads that is waaaay too big of a trap. I dont know man, but It looks pretty shady.

Sounds like the possible cheaters would mill/fish around the marina after blast off making sure all boats are in the main lake. Then sneak into that cove assuring no witnesses.

Re: Pyramid Cage
The cage is a portable dog crate, they fold up to the size of 1 side pc. The reason I think they would use one of these is they would be pretty easy to hide in your boat. Just my .02 worth. This comes up every 2 or 3 years about a cage that is found. I remember back more than 20 years ago when one found at casitas .

This is why all tournaments with money involved need lie dectector test, I dont care if was for $400. or $10,000 dollars, all fishermen should pay a extra $5 and do a radeem test or pull the top 3, every organzitation. Period......It might not solve it totatally, but it would help tremendouslly, it would make them think twice about it....

I use to drive a truck cross country. Once while I was driving through Texas and had to stop for the night at a truck stop another driver caught a driver stealing diesel out of a guys tanks. The individual was detained and the word went out that another driver was caught stealing diesel out of anothers tanks over the CB. The thief could be located behind the last row of trucks.
What ya think happened to that person? I saw allot of truck drivers walkin that way!
Now what do you think should be done about another bass fisherman stealing money from all of us. Thats what he is doing!
