Some a-hole damaged my trailer

Post by Team Efusjon »

They clipped the left rear corner of the trailer while I was out on lake Castaic today. Most likely with theirs. Left no note, nor did they contact lake staff.

The metal surrounding the reverse light is dented in pretty deep, and they scraped up to the rear of the fender. Tire has scrape marks on it too as well as a small area of the wheel. And get this...the grommet that was knocked out from around the light, as well as a reflector that was scraped off, was not on the ground, nowhere to be found. They obviously took them to hide the evidence. I had to use electrical tape to secure the light back into its slot for the ride back home since it was hanging by its wires. At least it still works.

If someone knows or heard something about this, I'd appreciate you letting me know. It's a silver trailer for a 20' Triton boat. White Chevy Tahoe tows it. I was parked at the main ramp parking lot in the first row closest to going down to launch, right across the playground area. A complaint has been registered with the lake police.

I feel your pain!! The same thing happened to me at Pyramid a few years ago and it cost me $900+ for a new composite fender for my Skeeter IClass. A-hole isn't quite strong enough wording for this situation!!!!!

I was parked in the same row, right next to the handicap spots, and I didn't see anything. Sorry.
I park there to try and minimize the chance of damage, but someone did hit my trailer there, just pushing the left light assembly into it's socket, and scratching the road guard paint a little. The light still worked.
The woman who hit me left me a note with her name and phone number, and appologizing for having hit my trailer.
When I got home I called her, and thanked her for leaving the note.
No harm, no foul. We were both lucky it was minor, and I said forget about it. The note was more than enough.
I am still amazed, and grateful, that she left a note.

Same thing happened to me a couple years ago at New Melones, in the parking lot of the Tuttletown ramp. Luckily for me, it was only the tail light that was damaged. Still though, no note and they picked up the broken pieces and put them on top of my trailer step.

I feel your pain also. My trailer got hit at Castaic a few years back. They hit the right fender and left no note. Take a look at the endless dirtbag skiers and pleasure boaters that can barely get their boats on the trailer and it's not hard to see this happening. A week later, I had a tool in a cigarette boat speed through a 5 mile an hour zone in the fish arm and his wake threw my tied up Champion up on the restroom dock. It was a nice $300 bill to fix the chunk taken out. I always park my rig at the top of the lot to avoid worry. Sorry man!

Thanks guys. Yeah, I can't imagine it was another fisherman doing this and not coming forward. Probably a skier/pleasure boater, but who knows?

Regardless of who it was, a hex on them: If it was a fisherman, may your line always break! If it was a water skier, may you always slam into the water face-first...and hard! If it was a pleasure boater, may your vessel always have an engine problem and your blaring stereo system never work!

I was trying to post some pics to my original post for you all to see, but I don't seem to understand how to do it. Thought I did, but it's not working.

Join the club. I had this happen at Clear Lake at KVC parking lot during the elite series. So it may not be a skier/pleasure boater.

A guy in my club down south had a guy back down the RAMP and hit his trailer, and then deny it happened! Gotta come up with another descriptor for that.

Same thing happened to me 3yrs ago at B&W on the delta- but I caught the guy! After I noticed my badly dented fender with distinct yellow and blue paing left behind, I looked around the parking lot and found the other trailer with my paint on his... long story short, I called the CHP and the officer agreed that the damage matched perfectly (I had moved my trailer alongside the other to directly compare the damage). I left a note on the guys windshield along with the CHP report! Long story short, I got a call the next day by the guy claiming that his "girlfriend" had parked the trailer after launching and he didn't know anything about it... sure. My dealer estimated only $400 to fix the fender, but it was the principal of the thing and I was determimed to get this guy to pay for the repair. After 3 months of promising to send a check, I finally filed a small claims against him. Another month of nothing, then one day before the court date he finally sends a check. Done!

Funny story for you.....Years ago, before I made the flip to fishing on the boater side, I was fishing as a co-angler in a tournament and we were at a ramp in Florida that had the worst lighting in the parking lot that I have ever seen. Well, I ended up tearing up my boater's fender along with another boater's in the poorly lit parking lot....to this day I still don't know how I did it, but I ended up coming clean to both guys (why wouldn't you?) and payed for not one, but TOW new fiberglass fenders for these guys....no joke....I am now great friends with them and we joke about it all the time. So, again, years ago, I make the switch to fishing the boater division and guess what happens at the SAME ramp, a year later? First tournament, some guy does the same thing to me.....no note....no one saw anything....$930 new Ranger fender. I get to the dealer when it came in and the owner says "Steve, don't worry about it, its all paid for." I couldn't figure it out......the two guys whose fenders I tore up the year before ended up calling the guy and they split the cost of my fender. Fishermen are truly stand up guys.....at least most of them.

My boat is a 2006 and the trailer has been hit 3 times my previous boat was a 2001 and that trailer was hit a few times too. No one ever fessed up.

Obviously there are a lot of people out there who simply dont know how to drive pulling their own vehicles while pulling a trailer
