Yes, some. Seht this will be a banner topwater year. The snow melt will push all the warm water to the top and the bait and fry will come with it. Look for awesome topwater fishing starting later this month and rolling through the first part of July...I am pumped!!!!

Yes, they are starting to bite on topwater. More than a month ago the FPT millerton had a fish on a buzzbait, and I've got friends getting bites and follows...and ocassionally catches. Maybe not the numbers bait yet, but certainly worth tossing.

Clients have been getting top water bites on the Delta for about a month now. Best day was last Wednesday when we fished the eve turkey shoot out of Ladds. Had 25lbs on frogs for the win. Even had a few smaller fish on the buzzbait.

Here's Vince's full report on the topwater bite.

Thanks Vince for taking me out again! I had a blast. The one that got away is still haunting me. I think it would've been my personal best but a 7 lb frog fish is certainly nothing to laugh at. What a first frog fish! I'm hooked!

The topwater bite here on the River, comes and goes with shallow roaming fish. Last month, we had a three day stretch of incredible wake bait fishing, it's been non-existant for me since, although that Slammer is on the deck and gets tossed at some point in the day. I did catch a 3 pounder on the Slammer today, only topwater bite all day. The past two weeks, the frog rod has come out and I'm getting 1 fish a day on it, and 4-5 slappers. Mostly fishing around the cheese that butts up agains tulles on a rock levee bank. As for the Buzzbait, I had one great day about 2 weeks ago where I caught 6 fish off my dock one evening. I've also had that rod out all day and have yet to catch any other buzzer fish. I've also began to see a lot of bait fish in the grass the past two weeks, blue gills moved up over the weekend and a lot of last years baby bass are showing, this prompted me to break out the popper and start tossing it around the isolated fry I've been seeing, but have had ZERO takers on this bait.

Overall, the topwater here is poor at best, with the exception of that one day, when they seem to hit it with agression and ya stumble into a group of shallow fish willing to chase it. The Delta bass aren't doing a whole bunch of chasin right now, but I got this sneaky suspicion that this is about to change! Keep that topwater on the deck, toss it to prime targets and locations, just don't rely on it ALL day long, you'll be in fer a long tough day most days here.

A month ago or so in March I experienced the best Top Water bite of my life at El Salto. Nothing can compare!
