Resesed foot control....
Resesed foot control....
Thinking of installing a resesed foot control for my trolloing motor on my 04 Ranger 185vs. Can anyone tell me where i can get one? are they easy to install? about how much do they cost? are they worth the trouble and money?? thanks in advance
Re: Resesed foot control....
Do It. They have them at Capitol City marine in Citrus Heights. Call and ask for mike or Phillip. They are about $150 (guestimate). They can install or you can do it yourself
Re: Resesed foot control....
It is absolutely worth it..
I am so happy that I went ahead and pulled the trigger on getting one. It is worth every penny..
Having said that, I purchased mine from TW and I am actually a lil mad that I didn't wait because now they have like 7 colors..
Oh well, guess I will just get it powder coated when I take my trolling motor parts to get coated as well..

Once it arrived I took it to Anglers Marine in Anaheim and had it installed and they did a nice clean job..
BTW...Whoever installs it, just make sure that they drill the trolling motor down to the actual comfortoll so that it's not moving around all over the place when you place your foot on it..
Hope that helps..

Re: Resesed foot control....
I put one in my 2009 tracker. I have the motorguide trolling motor and ordered a recessed foot pedal from the Cabelas catalog for 145 plus shipping. It took two hours to install, and could have been quicker had I not been freaking out about cutting into my new boat.
The first think you do is buy the correct one for you trolling motore...usually motorguide vs. minkota.
Then you tape the paper template on your boat floor...then you sit there and play with the position to make sure its where you want it.(the hard part) remember yo may someday want to use a chair, pedastel or nothing. you also need to get an idea whats under your spot. I had to remove three rod sleeves to accomadate it.
then you remove the rug...remember to verify the right size on the template...a xacto knife/boxcutter does fine. then you drill 4 holes at the corners...jigsaw...zip zip zip..and you have a hole. place the drain hole.. remember which end is foward... and screw it down put footpedal in and reconnect and use tie to manage the power/ cable.
all you need is courage and correct measurement skills.
it will save your back.

This is why I took it to Angler's Marine because I did not want to stress out nor mess something up..acm95301 wrote:I put one in my 2009 tracker. Re: DO IT!!!!!*NM*
I did it for my Tracker, and found I needed to raise the pedal to about 1 1/2" above the deck (thank you Ron C.). When it was even with the deck, I had a tendency to pitch forward when the water was choppy.
On my Ranger, the recess was built in to the deck, and it set the pedal up 1 1/2" automatically.
I no longer have back spasms on the way home from the lake, and I'm nowhere near as tired at the end of the fishing day.
It should be a no brainer.

Re: DO IT!!!!!*NM*
If you are doing it yourself and are nervous like i was with the first cut. I recomend drilling a 2 inch hold righ in the middle of where you want it to go and look around to make sure nothing is in the way ie wire, frame etc. On my triton once i drilled the inspection hole i needed to move it about 1 inch more forward for clearance of the crossmember. It would have been tough to do after the entire cut is made. Also, if you drill the hole and chicken out you can just bold your trolling footpedal right over it to hide it.
Also, as another warning. I had a buddy of mine put one in and he mistakenly cut the hole the exact size as the footpedal and yes, that was an "OH CRAP" moment!!
Still it is well worth it as I could never really keep my fat butt solid and standing when it was rough out, plus no back pain etc.
OK Im done rambling.

Love mine, no idea why I waited so long..... had it done by Capital City Marine a few years ago and was very happy...
I was too cowardly to cut my baby myself....and was told Rangers in particular can be a little difficult due to all the extra support under the deck

Re: Resesed foot control....
I just installed a Comfort Troll in my 2003 Champ 188 last week. I can already tell the difference it has made for my back and knees after a couple of days on the water. A friend had one in his 2004 188 and I was able to feel how much more comfortable it was with the pedal at deck-level.
I like the fact that the Comfort Troll has a rounded back edge. It seems to me that the fewer 90 degree corners in the cut out the better, stress-wise. Powdercoated and made in Paso Robles.
Measure twice (or 3 times) and cut once. I was able to get a good look under the deck from the front console and through the "porthole" in my tackle locker. Easy to do yourself with just a couple of tools and some good planning.

Re: Resesed foot control....
BASSTUD I have a 03 ranger 195 and I put one in myself. Best thing I've ever done. There is a couple of wires you my cut when cutting out the deck, they are for your bow lights and very easy to repair.
Re: Resesed foot control....
I fished for twenty years without the recessed pedal and had no problems. I have fished for the last two with a recessed pedal in my new Champion. The pedal sits flush with the deck. I now have a lot more trouble finding the pedal without looking, no matter the water conditions. In the old boat, I used to be able to move a slightly raised foot around the deck and find my pedal real quick. Not any more. I am going to use spacers to raise my pedal an inch or so and see how that works. I would make sure your mount sits low enough so that you can explore the best height for you.
Re: Resesed foot control....
Cost is not an issue. Just do it and your back and knees will be forever grateful to you. In rough water, you are more stable as your body is level with the recessed pedal.
Re: Resesed foot control....
I think I might be obsessive compulsive Senkoboy! My wife just calls me anal. I'm probably going to adjust my pedal ten times until I get the height right. You ought to see how organized my tackle is! I gotta go. I think I see a spot on my boat.
Re: Resesed foot control....
Give Richard a call at Cand C Marine in Modesto. He will have Greg and the boys in the back install one for you, fair price and good work.

Re: Resesed foot control....
Just do it your selve, get to know your boat, to many boat operaters rely on others for the most minor thing that need done.
It's very easy to cut a large hole in the deck of your boat, jig saw, drill, sawsall, just remember to cut once and mersure 20 times if need be, do your homework, that's a word to many have forgotten in this computer age...
once your there you'll find out now you also have access to the upper rreaches of your bow, tighten or reseal your bow eye, thru bolt that loose troliing motor base, clean up the sonar cables and wires that were just slapped together.
one thing I did to my minkotta pedal was raise the heal up a inch, helped out.
