What are you doing Memorial Day weekend?

Post by fishercurtis »

I was thinking of hitting the Delta Thursday and then again on Tuesday. Staying away from the crazy & just plain bad boaters during the weekend. I think I'll slow smoke some ribs, take a swim in the pool and drink a few beers.

I think it always fun to grab a chair and a cooler and go sit at a busy ramp and watch all the "Boaters" try to launch and retrieve thier boats. A lot of good family drama goes on.

A couple of great friends coming up (Kirk and Gary), great friends coming over, a fine meal prepared by the boss on Saturday night (THANKS sTony!) before watching UFC, a party on Sunday with a whole bunch of friends, and a hangover turkey shoot on Monday. Oh, and plenty of time on the water on Saturday and Sunday as well.

And several momentary pauses to give thanks to our Vets (current, past and passed) for protecting my right to do so! GOD BLESS AMERICA

+1 That is what I plan on doing while staying on a houseboat up on Berryessa in Pleasure Cove. We'll see if Life Flight makes a special appearance.

PM me when you get back with heads up about what would be worth seeing while in Netherlands. I have a business trip there in September and wondering if I should take a day or 2 personal to see some sites - I would be mainly interested in WWII type stuff - not interested in old castles. :P

It's because of men like your great-grandfather that we all here can do the stuff we want to do. Let's all remember what this weekend is for and give thanks to the men and women who gave all for you and me and this country.

A very honorable and worthy task that I have been involved with for a number of years. Taking a large group of cub scouts and boy scouts to the Golden Gate Natl Cemetery to place a flag on each and every grave (134,000). Huge group of scouts from all over, as well as other groups do this.

For fun stuff I'm taking my two younger guys (7 and 9) shark fishing on the bay. Hope to stumble across some stripers and halibut too.

You all would not believe how the Dutch celebrate Memorial Day over here. Its unbelievable how appreciative these people are. Every one of the 8,301 of our WWII Vets buried in Margraten at the US Military Cemetery has their grave adopted by the Dutch people who take care of their grave site. These people are so emotional and grateful for our fallen men. Everywhere we have gone, we have had escorts. Our bus has been escorted by old WWII Jeeps, all the way down to a marching band that escorted us through a small village that was the first village liberated during WWII. They have provided us with private concerts, and food prepared everywhere we go. Its absolutely amazing these people. Yesterday, in a WWII Museum, my grandfather found a picture of his dad. It is probably the last picture ever taken of him. My great grandfather was in the Battle of the Bulge and was captured December 16th by the germans and killed in a prison camp. The picture was taken in Ardennes in December, and it shows him and 3 other soldiers carrying a fallen soldier, while they carried it through knee high snow. My grand father immediately started shaking and burst into tears when he saw that picture, which he had no idea even existed. I could write a whole book on all the things that have happened here on this trip, just thought id share a little bit!
