Good Beginner Tournament in Central/NorCal?

Post by jbane9 »

I am a 27 year old bass fisherman who finally got a decent boat, after years of bank fishing and trips on other peoples boats. I am trying to find some small inexpensive beginner tournaments that would help me to get started in tournament fishing. I live in San Jose, so annywhere in the central valley or near the bay area is what im looking for. Thanks

Every two weeks in the summer is the POE MAN night series at Don Pedro. $100 all in includes big fish. They are from 7pm to 1 am and are a lot of fun. Next one is Friday June 19th. Check in at Flemming ramp.

Check out Tracy Bass. Inexpensive, 100% payback and good people. It's a great place to start. Season runs from Sept. to Mar. and you can fish saturdays or sundays. Or both. Whatever fits your schedule. http://www.tracyoasismarina.com/id3.html

I would fish a WRL event and check it out. They run a good show and are good people. I personally like the travelers division so I can fish all of the water they have to offer if I so like. living so far away from Tourney waters doesn't give me any edge to fish any one region. Fish at least 7 events a year and you qualify for the TOC.

Important considerations are your budget and schedule. Some tournamnet schedules go on saturdays , some sundays, some both. Some tournamnets cost a ton, other almost nothing.

In April, the Mike Van Guilder Sr. Memorial tournament is a Lake Mcclure event every April...cost is 100 www.berserkbaits.com

In the Fall, Phil Hill has been doing a Fall Tournament on Don Pedro.

Recently Nevada Bretz did a tourament out of Eastman...which I believe is an annual event.

This year I did the CBC, which has 3-4 local events ..each cost 118.

This year I also did the FPT which cost about 100 plus some option if desired for the central division.

also CBL..the christian Bass league i known for a very inexpensive motherlode circuit.

Both of these are great. Also look into your local clubs. You can probably learn more in A club than fishing A tournament series.

If your in the Sacramento Area Folsom Bass Team, is a great club that has some sticks in it that will allow you to polish your skills and competition in a friendly club atmosphere.
