Best Mono for Topwater?
I was out fishing on my uncles boat this friday and only brought rods with floro. Anyhow, long story short, we get on a bit of a topwater bite and all my lures are diving under water because of the floro. Needless to say, I was getting a little upset. It got me thinking...what is a good or a quality mono for topwater? I use Seagur for my floro and am really happy with it but after that experience, I need to make sure that I always have a rod ready with mono or braid.
thanks.
thanks.

You could have just added a few feet of mono to the end of your line to get by. Personally I use 30lb braid with 6or 7 ft of 15lb big game at the end for spooks. The mono prevents the front hook from fouling on the line. The braid makes the first twitch count on long casts. Straight mono won't. Uni to uni connection as has been described several times on this board.

Izorline Platinum or XXX = cheap and strong,
Sunline Defier= expensive and strong

i use 12-15lb Maxima Ultra green and it works well. I never have issues with the bait diving upon working it.
The second method I have used is the braid with a mono leader. that works but its a bit more expensive.

Use McCoy
McCoy is a co-polymer. It's silicon saturated so it does not absorb water like other lines. When a line absorbs water, it gets heavier, expands and sinks.
McCoy stay on the surface and thus is an excellent topwater line.

Re: Best Mono for Topwater?
berkley big game in 12, 15, or 20 lbs test has always worked for me and its very inexpensive.

I like the McCoy Mean Green in either 12 or 15 pound test for the Pop Rs or Spooks.JJCJR wrote:Use McCoy

I used to use braid for top water lures but I have had some lost fish if they are barely hooked due to no stretch.
I do use 65lb braid on the lunker punker.
