6 Hour Rule question......
Trying to understand this 6 hour rule crap. In Iowa, they are not limited to 6 hours during summer, but have to weigh in by 1pm during July and August. If it's clear in the morning, which it almost always is, the launch can occur at 5:15am instead of 6am. So you get almost 8 hours of fishing in. Why is this such a problem in California? The 6 hour rule at night is a joke also! Why don't we lower the limit to 3 fish? It's crazy to drive all over the place and spend so much money, and get a measly 6 hours of fishing in. By the time you get there, it's time to turn around and go back. Crazy ****! D.B.COOPER

Fish Mortality Rate is the reason I've always been given.

Almost as crazy as jumping out of an perfectly good air plane with a bag full of money.
Just keeping your prey in hot water which holds less oxygen for a shorter period of time. In a perfect world every one would have climate controlled oxygenated live well. One that would automatically release all fish if it couldn't guarantee 100% survival.
Hello: World isn't perfect, people don't care for their prey only pray for a pay check.

I don't know enough, to leave well enough alone.

The higher the water temp the lower the O2, The water is just as hot at night as in day now. The mortality rate is much higher now. Change out the water often and add a little ice will help. Also add about 1/2 cup of table salt to each water change.DO NOT DROP THE WATER TEMP MORE THAN 10 DEG. At the last WRL event at Oroville I lost a fish. The two oz penalty cost me $455 ! The hook stuck in a gill and it just bleed to much. Tried every thing I new to save it. If we as a group had done better in the past of taking care of our fish in hot weather Fish & Game would never made this a requirement.

Re: 6 Hour Rule question......
You don't have to fish for 6 hours. You have to weigh your fish with-in 6 hours.
Night tournaments worse for the DO in water. DO is normally highest in the late afternoon as the plants and algae do their thing then starts to crash after the sun goes down and is lowest first thing in the am before the sun comes up. So a midnight weigh-in you have the combo of still warm water from the heat of the day and a rapidly falling DO.

As fisherman we are allowed to keep 5 fish per day to take home and eat. As bass fisherman a lot of us pratice catch and release to insure strong fisheries. With that said, if Fish and Game is going to be putting time limits on tournaments, then there should be a different type of fishing license for catch and release only. I have never seen a more corrupt state such as this one, where it cost so much for everything that a guy wants to do. I love to fish and I love tournaments, but I hate the goverment putting their thumb on us. Not much I can do if I want to fish, but I agree they should let a tournament go on for as long as the director wishes it to.
