C.O. Pro-Teen XII needs boaters!

Post by Cooch »

We're just about a month away and we only have 25 boaters registered for this year's event. I know the Boater Reg Link was acting up a few weeks ago but it has since been fixed. We've hit the 60 teen mark and are now placing all the remaining teens on Stand By. Please check yer calenders folks and if yer free on Sunday July 18th, please take a few moments and register at the following link so we can git a solid count of where we're at with boaters!

Chris - the event rules are listed on the ProTeen page - but yes, you are allowed to fish and the object is to help the teens and hopefully get them on some fish!

What is the count? Started with 25 and three sign up making 28 (that I know of) – how many more are going to sign up! The way some of us have been fishing we could use some help from the Teen – LOL.

Have a question. I know a young man that is 16 yo He is a very good kid and has a lot of respect for his elders. He has never fished before as for as I know but might be interested in something like this to learn.
I will try to take him out myself before this event but would he be out of his league in this format?
He has no real gear which I would help set him up with some but how would some feel about having such a greenhorn fishing in this event?
Looking for advice before I talk with him about it.
thanks

RoarRoar -

Personally, I would take him out without any reservations at all! The purpose of the Pro/Teen is to introduce the next generation to the sport of fishing.
What better way to do that than to start with a tournament where each of the "Pro" boaters volunteer to be there
and there are free goodies and great BBQ to finish off? If there are enough Pro's signed up, sign him up!

heck no sign him up..........
:D :D
the boaters that volunteer to fish this event are really great at trying to get these kids on fish, no matter what level they are.
best thing to do is work with your kid on casting, flipping, pitching prior to the event, so he doesnt feel that helpless. if you can take him out a time or two so he can see whats going on.
at his age he should pick it up quick and have a good time
Never argue with an idiot; He'll beat you to death with stupidity.
I AM NOT SAYING THERE SHOULD BE CAPITAL PUNISHMENT FOR STUPIDITY,
BUT, WHY DON'T WE JUST TAKE THE SAFETY LABELS OFF OF EVERYTHING
AND LET THE PROBLEM SOLVE ITSELF?"

I 100% agree with semi and blkdog...get him out there for the event if at all possible. This event is targeted to really make sure the kids have a good time. If possible, he can even practic some casting in his yard with a rubber sinker. That may give him a little confidence when it comes to casting...the pro's will take care of the rest and do their best to make sure he enjoys himself on the water. If he does not have any rods or reels at all and decides that he wants to fish it, send me a PM prior to the event and let me know...I would be more then happy to loan him a few rods for the day...no problem at all.

Hopefully he decides to fish and if not this year...maybe next year.

Good Luck,
Randy

See if Cooch has any openings. I have fished with teens that are from all sides of the spectrum, and on some years you would have thought I never used a bait caster. Give the kid a senko and a frog, we will show him the rest

Now where all da boaters at? Come on you guys practicing for Snag Proof this is a great opportunity to pre-fish :P

Andy and I talked about this tonight... NEED MORE BOATERS!!!

C'mon guys, please get involved! We have a lot of teens that are in need of boaters and we don't want to leave any on the dock! Times are tight I know, and it has been a pretty challenging season so far, but the fish are starting to play and it won't set you back too much to take a teen out and help with this very worthwhile event - the rewards are worth far more than the costs incurred.

PLEASE think about signing up and helping out this year!

How many boaters are signed up?
Cooch

Re: C.O. Pro-Teen XII needs boaters!

Post by Cooch »

Current numbers are 60 teens confirmed, 10 on the waiting list.

At this point, I only have 44 boaters on the registration page, I greatly appreciate and thank those that have used that page to help me keep count of what we need. I know there are some guys who've said they would be there and have yet to sign up. If you have yet to do so or can be available on the 18th, please take the following link so I can keep track of the numbers and git these waiting list teens in the event.

http://www.westernbass.com/dotcom/proteen/regform/

Keep in mind, you do not have to be a touring tournament pro or weekend tournament angler to help us out in this event. We have bass fishermen/women of all levels participating as boaters in this event. If you got a bass boat, love ta fish the River and have the patience ta spend 6 hours on this River introducing a kid to bass fishing, yer a PRO in my eyes AND theirs!!!!!!!!!!

Let's git-R-done folks, see ya there! Thank you to all of you who have helped in the past and a big hearty thanks and welcome to those who are a first time participant in the C.O.Pro-Teen, it's an awesome event because of you guys!

My boat is heading to the shop this week. Bad seals on the hydraulic steering = no control at 30mph or more. I wouldn't take someone's kid unless I'm sure it is safe. This would be my 4th year and it is a blast. I will be there if it looks like the repairs will be done in time. (thanks Frank)

So I just received the okay from the wife to go on Sunday if they are still in need of boaters.......then I just checked the page and realized there is a pre-meeting Saturday night. I have a wedding that evening so as far as the pre-meeting goes I am out. If boats are still needed I will be more than happy to make the drive over from Modesto Sunday morning. I will try and shoot an email to the powers at be to let them know. I have heard some great things about this event and would like to make sure my boat is available if needed.
Don't ask about my username, all I need to say is check yours and check them often.
