Tru-Tungsten going downhill?
To preface, I've been fishing Tru-Tungsten weights exclusively for the better part of a decade, and have NEVER had a problem with them before, so now you know my credentials are in good order
O.K. I bought some new Tru-Tungsten worm weights to other day and go fishing at my aunt's pond, after about a dozen casts, I realize my line is frayed down near my bait. Long story short, I found that the new weight was chewing up my line. So I return them to the store and get some other ones, figuring it was a fluke.
Not a fluke, same thing, chewed up line after a handful of casts.
I then noticed that the weights were produced in Germany, and no longer in China. I'm all for NOT sending my money to China, but it seems the casting and quality control of Tru-Tungsten weights has gone to hell.
Anyway, just wanted to see if anyone else had the same experience. I plan to get ahold of Fish Harder and see what the hell is going on.
Just be aware if you're buying new Tru-Tungsten weights.

I used to be with Tru tungsten for a long time and they always had a little line frey to them . Its nothing new. not a big deal at all as long as you retie a bunch. Other than that they worked out pretty good . But if you still have a problem or just dont like to retie a bunch . Try the Kanji Tungsten weights. They have an insert and rarely frey my line. Hope it helps.

Paint chipping way too easily as of late. Went & bought bulk no name brand tungsten bullet sinkers & powdercoated them myself.
I am not a patient man....I am simply relentless.........

No problems here with line fray. I have noticed that the paint is chippin off easier as of late though..

Re: Tru-Tungsten going downhill?
BassmanDan i completely agree with the statement you made. Not only are the weights fraying the line but they also made the holes bigger so that you have to buy the pegs. They dont work well at all. Ive had to put a peg at the bottom of the weight so that it wont break the line. My team partner has broke off two fish in a tournament because of the new weights. So I feel they are on the fall they need to turn it around, Im shopping around.

Re: Tru-Tungsten going downhill?
I found cheaper painted tungsten weights at www.alleystungsten.com .
The paint doesn't hold up like the first TT weights, but even that wore off after a while.
And they're half the price, with an insert.
I don't know if their prices have changed, but, back in May, I paid $16.40, plus $2.40 shipping, for 20 3/16oz green pumpkin weights.

Re: Tru-Tungsten going downhill?
Interesting theory. I have been having major problems with my "line". Or so I thought. I recently spooled up AbrazX and used my usual Tru-Tungsten worm weights. Since spooling up with AbrazX i have broken off about 8+ weights both on normal casts and hook sets. Since then, I have not gone back to that line and actually have steered clear of fluoro all together. Opting back to CXX, which never had this issue. However, after reading this thread it begs the question; weights or line?

Re: Tru-Tungsten going downhill?
i have never ever broke off as many fish flippin as i have this year. I only buy the tru tungsten weights and since my last bulk order, ive broken off more than half the fish i hook. im glad i read this because i thought to myself, with the holes so much bigger my knot just gets crushed inside the weight and pow! makes sense now. kinda.

Re: Tru-Tungsten going downhill?
I personally have never had any issues with Tru-Tungsten weights. However I made a phone call to the guys at TT, they said they had a small batch of weights that made it through there strict quality control. All issues have since been corrected. If you are experiencing any issues, please email Tru Tungsten at service@fishharderco.com and they will assist you.

Re: Tru-Tungsten going downhill?
Thanks very much for the info Matt.
Like I said, I've been using them for quite a while and I was more surprised than angry, that they were damaging the line.
Much appreciated,
Dan

Re: Tru-Tungsten going downhill?
check your weights like you check your hooks for sharpness prior to using them. I once had a problem with a swimbait tail breaking and Tru Tungsten took care of me. The customer service lady was very nice and replaced my bait after I mailed it back. I think they would do the same if you had a problem with there weights.
