Very glad to see this. Zank is a good guy, from what I could tell the little I know of him, and I'm sure it was tough to step up and compose that memo.

"A friend in need, is a friend, indeed"
Situations like this are what that saying is all about. It's easy to be someone's friend when things are good, but true friends are there when things are bad, too.
I don't condone what Mike did, but it's comforting to know he still has friends.
He cheated himself, and his sport, but he isn't a monster. He's just someone who made a huge mistake, and will ultimately be the one who pays the most for it.
He's lucky to have a friend like Zank.

What did you expect him to say " yeah I cheated with him". Get real. That SOB is a monster. He smiled in everyones face while reaching into your pockets to steal your money.

This is good to hear but I’m afraid that unless both of Harts previous partners take a polygraph stating that they never cheated or knowingly let Hart cheat, the majority of the anglers will find it hard to believe this was the first time.

This really shouldn't be necessary. Why assume that his team partners were in on it? They weren't caught, he was. Not to mention that there were 3 AAA anglers at the open who were in the boat but had no clue. He did it on his own. He could have just as easily weighted fish during a team tournament as at the open. Think about it, when your team partner is in the back messing with fish in the livewell, do you watch his every move or do you keep fishing.

What about all the fish he let go with lead in thier bellies. What if I were to catch one of those fish and eat it with my family, giving my kid lead poisoning due to a CHEATER. You can rot in hell along with martha stewart.

True that he could have cheated all along without his partners knowing.

I know that when I was fishing tournaments a lot we would weigh our fish as we catch them as most of the guys do. As long as you have a good scale you should be pretty much in the ball park with total bag weight right?

I know that if I was sure we had 15 pounds and at weigh in the bag weighed 20 pounds I would start to get a little suspicious and start to think WTH.

ARE YOU GUYS SERIOUS!!!!?

John Viazanko and Bill Seimantel "HAD" to have been a part of the cheating in past years! I will say they are good anglers. They are skillfully and knowledgible. Did I say, "Masters of Illusions"??

Guys look at the simple facts.....

The now infamous "Torpedo Weight-Gainer" with a hook!!! This thing was carefully and craftfully designed!! John "The Zank" Viazanko knows "a little" about lure design!! How many times do you think it took them to figure this out? How many helpless bass spit the"HART ATTACK TORPEDO" out before the Dynamic duo of "Hart & Zank" got the light bulb and said, "Let's put a hook on the torpedo"!! This will stop them bass from spitting them out! What about the timing of when to feed the "HART ATTACK TORPEDO"? As they are caught? At Lunch time? 30 minutes before weigh-ins? At the docks? TRAIL AND ERROR!! The US OPEN was "NOT" the first time!! COULDN'T HAVE BEEN!!

Congrats! HART & ZANK you out smarted the bass!! But how many other things have you F'rs done?? I bet there's much more things, like cages?? Bass in the cornhole trick?? How about a fantom boat in a cove?? Yeah thought so!! Bill Seimantel you can be the Jose Canseco of our sport and come clean and expose it all!!

I am pissed to think of all the tournaments I have been in and these guys CHEATED!! NO ONE is this lucky! We all know fishing is SKILL+LUCK=SUCCESS This year 6 out of 7 wins in WONBASS 2010!!! WTF!!

Anyone out there like to see if Mike Hart and John Viazanko can push out a "HART ATTACK TORPEDO" out their BONGHOLE!!! I bet they can't if there was a "STINGER" HOOK!!

WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND!!! Thank you GOD for exposing these guys and saving our sports integity!!

GREAT JOB WONBASS!!! BILL EGAN IS THE MAN!!! I look forward to the US Open 2011!!

As tough as it seems if you were partnered for that many wins and not an occasional AAA match then I would never question your honesty but I would also never fish a tourney again that you were entered in just in case. Law of probability is against you and that is just life. Good luck.

Bass8myW8, for someone who talks so much about integrity, isn't rather ironic how you can hide behind your screen name and make a bunch of unwarranted accusations? Opinions are like a$$holes. If you have proof, lets hear it. If not, close it!

BTW, I was just involved in a slander suit and won $7,000 for less damaging statements than what this moron BASS8MYW8 just wrote.

True Brian, I too hate when people get on forums and talk the sh.it but dont have their real names anywhere on their post.
Its very weaK!!! That is one thing I hate most about these forums..
I know, I know...I have TEAMDEADMONEY as my screen name but Ive never NOT put "Pete" at the bottom of all my posts with Team dead Money apparell AND my guide service.
I think Tony should list peoples real names with screen names so we all know who everyone is....
People have a right to their opinions but they should be man enough to at least stand by their comments with their names..

Ive never understood how people could get off saying hurtful slanderous things and then hide behind a screen name...

Okay, so this is the deal. This post is being copied, saved and forwarded on to the folks you've slandered. Should their legal council contact me, I intend to provide them with all information associated with this post; the person who made it, their internet carrier and so forth.

Should John and Bill decide to sue you over the words you've thrown around in this forum, we'll support them by any means we have available to us.

Folks posting have to be aware that you can be held liable for the words you type into this and any other forum. If you slander someone you just might wind up defending yourself in a court of law.

Quite a statement from someone I've never met.
You come off sounding like an idiot.
I'm not condoning what Mike Hart did.
And I recognize that a lot of people feel betrayed, and cheated.
But I am also aware of the consequences for Mike of what he has done. He has ruined his life, and, by association, the fishing careers of his past partners. For people who have a grasp of what that means, it is the real tragedy in this.
A life destroyed is a lot more important than some money lost.
I guess you're either too young, or too perfect, to have ever made a bad decision.

Karma:

the effects of a person's actions that determine his destiny.

I know in my heart I have been a victim of cheating in the past. I cant prove it. So I keep my mouth shut. One thing that has to be considered. When we see bass, boat a bass and take a sack to the scales, we know what they weigh. I don't fish for the money but I do enjoy cashing a check once in a while. I just truely enjoy tournament fishing. When I have won in the past I was happy but it was really no big deal. What is a big deal to me is that every time I have fished I did it honest and my wife and kids will never look at me as a cheater.

There should be a detailed investigation. Guilty parties should be barred from tournament fishing for life and have there fishing license revoked and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

This is no time for touchy feely liberalism. When you fish for money and cheat you are a criminal. If its over $400 in California its a felony. Felony means State Prison. The sport of tournament bass fishing deserves justice because we are all victims of this crime and the guilty parties should be made an example of.

If I ever win a tournament again. It will be because

A) I worked really hard.
B) I found some good fish.
C) I used my skills to get them in the boat.
D) I obeyed the rules.
E) And the good lord wanted it to happen.

If I ever win any money again. I know for a fact it will be a loan and I will pump the money back into the industry sooner or later.

Its you against the fish. Its the sport of it. Its being outside flying 70 mph, over glass, to your first spot with 200 horses strapped to your butt. Its the feeling of knowing that for a moment in time you were the best. The sport means that much to me. I didn't survive cancer to throw my life and integrity away. I just don't understand why anyone would.

I have a question for Mark Poulson. Why do you come on here and make Mike Hart "the victim" he made his choices and now he has to live with them. Im glad he ruined his life. He did it to himself. The real victims here are everyone that ever fished against him. I hope you know where im coming from. And to answer your question yes I am young and yes I have made some bad choices in my life. But it has never crossed my mind to steal from fellow anglers or cheat at anything and I have met you.

What did his family do to deserve what they're forced to go through now? He has a wife and kids. Are they cheaters?
And how do his past partners "prove" they didn't/don't cheat?
It's a little like the old "do you still beat your wife" deal, where nothing they can say will mean much.
If you're so focused on the money you "lost" to him, take some comfort in knowing WON is taking this all the way, and Mike Hart will pay a huge price for his choices.
Unfortunately, so will his family and past partners, and they didn't make those choices.

His family will most likely move on just like he will. No more hanging out at fishing stores and around tournaments and seminars. If I was his partner I would write a check for any winnings I made with him to each circuit for a fundraiser tournament for some good cause. I would not want to keep any questionable winnings and that is about the best way to clear up this mess.

This whole thing is reminiscing of the Salem witch trials. People like Bass8myW8 pushing a tabloid mentality and making statements based off pure speculation, then spreading garbage to make yourself seem progressive. While cheating is poison to Bass fishing, your words and actions should be just as feared by the common man.

Re: A Statement on the Mike Hart Situation from John Viazank

I haven't been in bass fishing very long but I would like to add a thought or two here. First regardless of what he has done in this situation he is a better fieherman than I am. He caught the 5 fish to start with. While I can not condon any type of cheating he made a mistake for reasons maybe only he will ever know and we can't hold this against those who have fished with him or his family. As I said only he knows the exact reason behind this and it reads like he is accepting responsibility for his actions. Just my two cents worth. Dave V.

Are you FING Kidding me!! You are calling Bill a cheater????? Some of you need to watch your mouths. There are some companies that will not like slander against an employee of theirs so you BETTER come to play hardball if you are going to start calling other cheaters

Greg, I don't think it counts as slander if it's blatantly obvious that it is true.

All I can say is WOW!
Did not hear anything about it until just now.
Just got back from a camping trip in Yosemite with the kids.

I have known Mike for a long time.
All I can say is it looks like the preasure to succeed
and the the string of past successes was too much for him and
resulted in some very bad choices.
Our sport is a very humbling one on a daily basis.
Or should be.
One day you're the hero, the next you are just a face in the crowd.

I'm sorry Mike did what he did.
I am sorry for Mike because he will now have to live with those actions for the rest of his life. It permanantly tarnishes an otherwise long and illustrious career that will never be the same again. He will always be able to fish, but will probably never be able to compete again.

Sorry for his family. He and his wife, were fishing partners for a number of years on our local scene.
Sorry for Zank, who will get smeared by the simple association with Mike. The accomplishments of these 2 stellar anglers and what they achieved will always be questioned now that this has occured.

It is perhaps a good time to reassess the priorities fishing has for all of us. Yes, it is vital to most of us for our well being.
We need it to relax, unwind, and revuvinate our souls.
It energizes us, and in many cases, seems to be the only thing worth living for, the bright light in an otherwise drab existance.
But that is just an illusion, as Mike is now discovering in a very sad and unfortunate way.

The loss of perspective can be a very distructive thing.
It is a sad day for fishing that this has happened.
It is also very naive to believe that this will be the last time anything like this will ever happen again. Human nature being what it is, someone, somewhere will forget,

That in the great scheme of the cosmos, chasing little green fish around a lake, doesn't amount to very much.

Other things are far more important.

GREAT JOB WONBASS!!! BILL EGAN IS THE MAN!!! I look forward to the US Open 2011!!

SLANDERED!!!???? WTF??? My posting was as carefully thought of as the "HART ATTACK TORPEDO"!! I don't want my name anywhere posted in the vicinity of "The Cheater" and his mischief!

Hiding??? ME???? What do I have to hide about? What do I have to defend? The fact that I get to write what I want when I want? Please someone "show me the slander", like Cuba Gooding Jr. says in Jerry Mcguire "show me the slander", "show me the slander"! I know I know, its "show me the money"!!! But if I say money here torpedos may start flying!

You guys with "Hart Attack Torpedos" up your poop shoot, you know who you are LOL, need to look at who is on trail and not who is writing what! Freedom of speech brothers!

Is saying a statement that Bill Seimantel can be the Jose Canseco in our sport is calling him a cheater? According to a lawyer its not! FACTS BOYS!! All I said was facts!!! If it was me I'd do everything I could to clean the story especially if I had the success as John and Bill!

If anyone would like for me to directly write to Mike and his friends I will. No need to cut and paste my Freedom of Speech.

My words are not meant to offend you "hart attack torpedo" groupies. It is my anger of being cheated, killing bass, while being a role model!!!

I wonder if PETA is aware of Mike "the Topedo" Hart and his army of Minions!!!

I WILL NEVER CHEAT! I WILL NEVER, HAVE NEVER KILLED A BASS! Mike Harts ex-partners should come out and defend themselves. The facts do not look good!

So you guys that have been used and continue to enjoy the Torpedo in your Fudge maker continue to throw punches at me. It only makes me laugh harder! It only makes what Mike Hart has done worse!
