Jackson WINS, C.O. Pro-Teen Classic XII!
Jackson WINS, C.O. Pro-Teen Classic XII!
Denzel Jackson age 19 of Oakland California, fishing today with Pleasanton pro Tom Wardrope, bested a field of 71 teen anglers by over a whopping 6 pounds. Denzel, fishing in his 4th and final Pro-Teen event, weighed in a near record weight of 20.51 pounds of Delta Bass to take the win. Denzel and Tom's five fish limit was anchored by a 6.15 pound Delta toad! Denzel & Tom's fish came on topwater and some heavy cover punching/flippin' tactics.
On a day when the bite changed 180 and got tough for most anglers ,who struggled catching smaller fish and scratching for bites with Senkos, these two anglers managed a solid limit of fish and backed it up with the kicker for the win! Power fishing the River and hitting the right timing is an all to familure formula for success here. For his efforts today Denzel was awarded a Shimano rod & reel baitcasting combo, a Black Dog 9" Wooden Lunker Punker, 6" Injected Punker, 2 Weed Slingers, a Custom Shell Cracker, a Ranger hat & shirt and the commemorative 1st place plaque.
The teen Big Fish award went to our 2nd place finisher, Angelo Ambrosino, who brought a fat, chunky, prespawn bass that weighed in at 6.41 pounds. Angelo fished today with local pro Guyle Sternat who said they just had to work hard and grind out their bites today and make em count! Angelo walked away with two plaques, two rod & reel combos, the Ranger hat & shirt and a hand full of black dog big fish baits for his efforts.
All in all, even with this tough economy we had a spectacular event today. So many folks came thru to make this event happen and come together today. Keep an eye out here on the Forum for further notes and posts regarding this year's event. I'm spent and will be back later in the week with a full report, story and gracious thanks to all that made this years event a brilliant one! We did Conroy Oakley proud, and I know the smile he bears from this years event glimmered down bright on all of us today!

Re: Washington WINS, C.O. Pro-Teen Classic XII!
Congratulations Denzel and Tom!!
Cooch, this was my first Pro-Teen Classic and it was an awesome event and you can count me in for future years.
It's really cool to see the teens weigh their fish. The excitement of the weigh-in you can see in their faces.
Excellent event all the way around.

Thank you Tunaman for going above and beyond to help me and my teen out. Not only did you tow us in when my lower unit broke he also let me take his boat out for my teen could finish the day out fishing. Thanks again Roger for the help.

Thanks to you Jim for coming out and bringing Shelly Gentry also... I know your schedule is berserk, so it was extremely magnanimous of you to take the time to drive up and participate! Towing you in and letting you take the teen back out was the least I could do.
Great job to you and your teen... probably would have had a run at the top had you been able to get to your water and fish the whole tournament!

Also, a big thank you goes out to Gary Collins for scheduling his vacation around the Pro-teen and making the trip up from Southern California.
And a HUGE thank you goes out to Kirk McIntyre for also coming up... for those who don't know, Kirk wasn't planning on coming as he had other irons on the fire and was in Vegas. Upon seeing that we still needed boaters on Saturday, he arrived home from Vegas at 10:00 AM and was on his way up to the Delta at 11:00 AM, boat in tow.
That was truly an exceptionally unselfish act and speaks to the fact that he has a heart of gold!
As a prologue, we made the drive to Clear Lake yesterday morning at 3:30, and he got a call shortly after noon requiring him to head back to Vegas as soon as possible... he left my house at 2:00 AM this morning to drive back to Victorville, then drive back to Vegas today.
Truly an ironman performance! THANKS SON for coming up and helping ensure no teen was left at the dock!

I had a blast at the Pro-teen. Got the Privilege to fish with Ron Howe. Had a fun day, got a ton of bites, and learned A LOT. Thanks again Ron for everything. Also would like to thank Cooch for putting on the event, along with all the sponsors, and people who were involved. Also a big thanks to the boaters, who came out and participated. Thanks again for another awesome year.

Re: Jackson WINS, C.O. Pro-Teen Classic XII!
Congrats to Denzel and Tom, you guys rocked!!! Not only did you guys win by more than 6 lbs, you figured out the top water bite...
I volunteered this year with my 2 boys and I really enjoyed meeting everyone involved in putting on this Great event... There is a lot more work involved than what I had imagined and I was glad to be a part of it. My boys even admitted it's more fun helping out, next to fishing, rather than watching from the crowd.
I'd also like to give Rick and his wife a special thanks for doing a lot of the cooking and showing me the fine art of Barbecuing 24 tri-tips.
I know it wore me out so hopefully you guys have recovered too...
Lastly, hats off to all of the pro's that came out to give these kids an experience they won't soon forget. My boys and I talked about what they learned from their pro's (Dave Solis & Mark Sanders) most of the way home (3 hrs). In fact, we're still talking about it and if you have kids, you know how pleasant that actually is----> Talking instead of watching the tube or playing the xbox...
Cooch and Crew, love ya man!!!

Congrats to Denzel and Tom !!
This was my 4th year at the Pro-Teen and it was another awesome year. I had the honor of fishing with Mike Moreno. I learned SO much from him, we had lots of bites, caught our limit, and he had great words of advice for me. He encouraged me to sign up for a local club (Which I did) and eventually fish some Pro-Ams. I also encourage any of the older teens to do the same, if you haven't already. Hopefully I can use some of the great tips I got from Mike to kick butt in my clubs 2 day Delta tournament coming up soon.
Also a HUGE thanks to Cooch, all of the boaters, and the rest of people involved. Thanks for another great year !!

Hopefully I can use some the great tips I got from Mike to kick butt in my clubs 2 day Delta tournament coming up soon.![]()
Also a HUGE thanks to Cooch, all of the boaters, and the rest of people involved. Thanks for another great year !!
Nick
It was a privelage fishing with you I had a blast, your enthusiasm as well as your willingness to learn make it all worth while for me. I think it is great that you went out and joined a club that fast;very impressive. I hope others will take your advice and follow in your foot steps. Fishing in a club and shared weight Pro-ams will help shorten the learning curve, you will also meet some great people along the way. keep it up Nick, you are on your way. Call me before your first tournament, maybe we can pre fish if its not against your club rules.
