What antenna is everone using internal or external? Will an internal antenna go through a bimini top ( canvas )?

An internal antenna will work fine through the bimini top. I use a Lowrance ifinder in my old Ford Bronco with the bimini top. It works fine, even thought their is a large roll cage and window frame near. Borrow a hand held unit to test it if you want verify it for yourself.

Mine "sees" very well through the fiberglass on my boat (antenna mounted below deck), so a bimini should not be a problem. As long as there's no metal over the top of the antenna you should be fine
