I live 20 minutes from there and fish there often...

The lake is full of small (6-10") smallies... Once in a great while I catch them up to 12"...

They hit about anything but drop shotting small plastics will give you the best hook up ratio..

Other baits I use are:

Small spinner baits like Beetle Spins
small curl tail grubs on a 1/8 oz. darter head
small pop R's when the water is calm
Tubes
Rooster tails work good too

They are anywhere on the lake but best bets are the rocky areas....If you plan on fishing on a weekend do so early in the am. before all the idiots get there..They place is a zoo on summer weekends..

Go by Valley rod&gun and get some bassectomy spot removers, they have been eating that bait real well this year :D There is large mouth in the lake also but they are few and far between

When is the last time you caught a LM there?... I know they were there when I was a kid but of the last 5-7 years and hundreds of dink bass I have caught there they have all been smallies...

I know the lake also used to have a good crayfish population until the small mouth inilated them..

It's funny cause back in the day they transplanted the smallies there from Pine Flat...Now they dont want them in there any more so they have been transplanting them back to Pine Flat...

didn't the DVL smallies come from Shaver too? I fished Shaver as a kid and caught a bunch of dink smallies, good times. I guess it kicked out some big ones back in the 70's

I don"t fish Shaver, my boat only does 70mph there because of the altitude   My insurance man has a large mouth over 9# on his wall that he caught at Shaver. I don"t fish Reddinger either, I don"t like the road going in there

I've fished Shaver since early 80's probably about 100 times total and have caught a total of one dink largemouth in that time. In the 80's 1.5# to 2.25# limits of smallmouths were pretty common. Last year I did get a 19" 3.75# smallie off a fallen tree. I'm trying to put a picture on Fresno Bee web-site but haven't had any luck.

Best for me up there is of course week days, after 3:00PM, shade, small Yamamoto grubs, small tubes, and small profile jigs with pork.
