Go Deep

Post by Bob Simard »

Back off the bank and start looking at your electronics in the 40 - 60 foot zone on the sides of major mainlake points - ideally leading back to the larger coves

While doing this, drag a 3/4 to 1oz football head with a Yama hulagrub - I like pumpkin/black flake

Once you find better fish, start dart-heading the area with your favorite worm

For me, this isn't a tournament-winning pattern (since I've never won on Shasta - I haven't yet figured out one yet!) but you can catch a lot of fish

Don't know Dude - that's not my bite.... I'm to lazy to work that hard on the cold/rain/sleet/snow that is Shasta in the winter.

Fishing all the incoming water with Spinnerbaits, run them first thing in the am, then move out and fish the big jig in the cuts and out to the points! I like greenpumkin or a brown and purple jig set-up.

Out sunday had 41 between me and my Dad. Your gonna have to slow down...way down. This post front got them cold and headed deep. Lay the blade down and pick up the jig. All our fish came on yamamoto hulla grubs on 1/2 to 3/4oz football head jigs. In the mornings you can get them a bit shallower, but when that sun hits start lookin deep. 40-70 feet and SLOW.
