DAY ONE

Post by DAKINE198 »

Well, day one its 9:41pm and we didn't get any pre-fishing in. We left Castaic at 6:30am and we were making some real good time. It looked like we were going to be on the water by 2-2:30pm. Then fate played her hand. I was passing a semi on Hwy 20 hitting the final stretch and something in my 6.0 let loose. Lost power and had to drop back. I limped it in to Lakeport at about 4:30. I had smoke blowing all the way down Main St. It was so thick one guy thought my boat was on fire. I got in to the Ford dealer here in Lakeport and they are going to take a look at it tomorrow..... Thankfully we made it in, the boats in the water and tomorrow I get to do some fishing. I know this is one trip my son will never forget.

Hopefully you are still under warrenty and can get a new motor.

People are still lined up to get theirs replaced on that motor.
You know, we always called each other goodfellas. Like, you'd say to somebody: "You're gonna like this guy; he's all right. He's a goodfella. He's one of us." You understand? We were goodfellas, wiseguys.

Got a call back from the dealer. I blew out the EGR cooler and the oil cooler and their giving me a good price for parts and labor ( thanks Jim Basham). Now the bad news. They have to order the parts so they can't start working on it until Monday. The very earliest I can have my truck back will be Wednesday. Now the really bad news, My son and I will be stuck in Konocti until its done. How can that be very bad you ask????????? I caught only one fish all day today. It was pretty cool though, my bruddah Larry's boat is parked right next to me. After yesterdays debacle we decided to take our time this morning, so I was getting my tackle ready had my jig tied on and was checking the freespool. I made a couple of pitches under the dock by his boat and got it all dialed in. My son comes up and ask me how far could I get it to go under so I showed him. A beautiful pitch way under the dock as the jig sank I felt the familiar tick so I set the hook and it was on. She had that flippin rod doubled over fighting her in close quaters, my son just about lost his mind when he saw her..... It was priceless. Just hope tourny day we can put 5 more just like her in the box on Saturday and Sunday.

Same exact thing happened to my 6.0 in Utah while headed to CO for a deer hunt...luckily then it was still under warranty and I just had to pay the $100 deductible ...I just put $2100 into the motor a little over a month ago when the high pressure oil pump went out...

The 6.0 is known for problems....I'd like to get rid of mine asap...
