Saturday September 11, 2010 marked the start of a new season for the Southern Colorado River Region of US Anglers Choice. We had 32 boats blast off this morning in search of the winning limit. Richard Viscarra and Tom Parks brought that winning bag of 17.70lbs to the scales anchored by a 7.23lb largemouth that Richard Caught in the lake throwing a senko. Richard and Tom brought out the broom and swept this first event to bring home a total of $2,254. In second place for the day just a half a pound behind was the team of Gary and Mel Williams. The Williams brothers weighed an impressive 17.21lbs with a 4.11lb big fish to bring home a total of $1150. The team caught there fish on Spinnerbaits and Plastics in the river. The always consistent Shaun Bailey teamed up with Doug Riha to bring in the third place bag of 16.88lbs with a 4.01 big fish for a total pay day of $727. They reportedly caught their fish off of deep structure. Danny Locatis had to fish the day solo without partner Andy Becker. Fishing solo Danny managed to bring in a total of 16.56lbs with a big fish of 4.42lbs for a total of $465. Rounding out the top 5 was Tom Graham and Stephen Solper. This team managed a limit good for 16.40lbs and $385. Second place big fish of the event tipping the scales at 5.01lbs went to the team of Billy Wade and Aaron Witten for $256 added to their sixth place finish bringing their total winnings to $542.

I want to thank Anderson Toyota, Taco Hacienda, Bad Miguels, Pro Tech Mats, Pepper Custom Baits, Campbell Cove 1 Stop, Days Inn, and Mack Signs for the continued support of this growing Southern Colorado River Region. Last and certainly not least I want to thank you the anglers.

We will see you all at the next tournament November 6, 2010.

Congratulations to Justin for a solid start to his circuit's team season on Havasu. I couldn't help but notice that most of the names involved should have been up at Mead. A good finish could have qualified many of them for the Western Classic. The no-show was not a surprise, however, since the same thing happened at Mohave. That convinced me that river fishermen aren't interested in having a pro circuit and convinced me to work for an organization that doesn't rely on the assumption there are enough pros to support professional bass fishing in the West. I don't think it's a matter of competition between organizations. I think choice and competition are good things. It's just obvious to me that what has shaken out is a situation where core groups just sit on their home waters. I think the big mistake AC and WON BASS make is to lowball their events. FLW and the US Open show that big money draws anglers. I don't blame AC for putting an event on top of WB -- after all a team event shouldn't be competition for a pro event. But you fishermen have an important choice to make and make soon -- do you want a Western pro circuit?

Rich you have a couple of good points and a couple that are not true. Regarding your statements about the river fisherman staying home and not fishing mohave and mead. Well, if Won Bass had a sponsor that would give a boat away to the pro winner you would have seen those names at both places and alot more. I could be wrong but the way things are going at Won Bass we and a few others have just a good chance staying at Havasu fishing a team event making almost the same as you would at a pro Won Bass event...Oh by the way Mike and I, Justin and John, and a few others are going to mead this week for the AC championship for a fully rigged boat. Shaun Bailey told me he was going to roosy to prefish for flw..I guess my point is a few river guys do go away from their home lake.. And I do know as everyone else times are tuff and most of these fisherman are trying to make ends meet. Oh buy the way Justin great first tourney, great job on everything.

Find a sponsor that will give a fully rigged boat for every pro/am Clint, you won't. Not right now at least.

The WON Delta event has 2 FULLY rigged boats being awarded and not to mention the Classic like A.C.

Is A.C or anyone esle giving away a fully rigged boat at every event. NOOOO

You may be right in the fact that the money on the team event gets up there with the Pro/Ams purses(due to poor numbers). But the classic is free and qualifying for it would have given you another chance for a boat.

I know of at least 6 guys who called and found out about the numbers for Mead and they did not go. Now if they showed along with everyone else who did the same, who knows what the numbers would have been.

But no surprise, we did this to BASS also...

You cannot get much bigger than Bass Pro and Tracker Marine for sponsors..Am I not right

Bigbass, That is the dip stick mentallity of alot of anglers. I've mentioned it before. They just don't get it. Don't wait till the numbers go up to enter just enter and the numbers will go up. DRRR. To tough for some anglers to comprehend.

Guys you really need to stop looking at the negatives and focus on the positives and upsides to things. Pro events such as the WON Bass have so much more potential then team tournys. They offer publicity and recognition that you will not find in the team tournament trails. Yes due to the poor turn outs you can almost make just as much by staying home but the fact of the matter is , if we let this slip away and dont support the people that support us then your only option will be to stay home and fish team tournys. And none of us want that. We just have to make the sacrifice during hard times to get through them so that when we come out of this funk one day we will have a western pro circuit that we quite possibly can fish for boats every tourny again but only we the anglers can make it happen so...Hope to see you all at the next one.

Billy,

I have been preaching your same words....

Some of these guys just don't care and they find the negatives everytime.

WON has a WEEKLY newspaper..I know a few of you guys could care less. But that weekly paper is GOLD for sponsors...

Either way you look at it, its ink and any ink is good ink. Unless of course you stuff your fish with lead.

You get my point..

Rich- here's my take on this whole mess, for what that's worth.
ANDREW STAY OUT OF THIS OR, OH FORGET IT.

You are right that a bunch of us should have been at Mohave &
Mead supporting Won.

I can speak for myself and I'm darn sure ALL other tournament
anglers that have made there living in some CONSTRUCTION
RELATED INDUSTRY. We all have went through 2 years of hell
just trying to survive. So with that said, its real easy for all us
construction brother's to jusify staying home and trying to make
a buck fishing local events. It's really that simple for me.
I promise you there isn't anyone wanting this sh#t to change
anymore than me, so I can get back after it.

So yes we do have a need for pro events BUT until this mess
changes, it's going to be slim pickens for every org out there.

It is true that BPS/TRACKER/NITRO does have probably deeper
pockets than anyone in our industry, SO BLOW THIS THING UP
BIGGER AND BETTER THAN EVER BEFORE. Get us all excited just
like FLW did when the National Guard events started in 2007.
It's really there for their taking with FLW/NG not coming back.
You never know we all just might dig up our coffee cans of $$$
buried in our back yards.

Have a great day Rich.....MG

last nite. She will be there looking at houses for us while were fish'n.
So everything is a go, her and I will be Nevada residents soon.
Looks like she will start on the 27th.

Stay off my water.....MG

Well I have a question for WON?
Why are you giving 2
boats away up North and just shuting the door on the South.
Next why so many boats now for the pro ams?
Team tourny guys get a motor?
I think you guys ssaid screw the team guys were giving the boat at the proams and try to get more guys out there.
35 boats for your last pro am looks like the team guys should get alittle lovn.
What about the South if you would of offered the boat at one of the Souths tournies think more of the South guys would of played.
1 more question to finish How many comped entries do you have for each Pro am and how many comped entries at the OPEN.
It sucks for some of these guys that have been supporting WON for years and then you invite others for free. Not only are you hurting feelings , but bringen the pay out down.
O wait lets not hijack this thread WON guys with your suport for WON bass.
Cause here comes AC full throttle. SOmeone wants to steal the customers, WON has been losing for years.
Next if we all support AC. get the fields over 100 every tourny. I bet MM can work something out with LEGEND.
Well be fishing for a boat again. The only draw back is Ill be paying some of HUTCHES pay check again. DANG owell maybe hes not as bad as i thinkhe is shoot I think he owns LABS

replying to ians post..... The reason two boats are being given away has nothing to do with north or south. it just happens to be the last stop on the schedule happens to be at the delta. if it was at mead 2 would have been givin away there. ( i cant believe i just had to explain that. ) Time r tough, yes you team guys get a motor. Sell it, its actually easier than selling a boat. Would you complain if it were a car or a truck instead of 2 motors.I doubt it. they're all worth cash! Just finding something to gripe about like always......and your right AC has a great program going as well. Do you see them giving away boats? 3 to say the least? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Do you even know what your complaining about, or r u just complaining cause nobody at home would listen to you?

PS Justin! You rock! haha
