launching out of Antioch questions??

Post by SKTR 20i »

A couple questions about Antioch Marina. Is it fresh water there, don't want to put my trailer or boat in salt water. Will my vehicle and trailer be safe (mid week).

Thanks, John.

You are referring to the free Launch a cross from Sherman Island off of Cavallo Rd, by the Red Caboose Restaurant? I have used it a few times and nothing has happen to my boat trailer or truck. As for there being more salt, I would say no more than in Sherman. Why would you want to fish down there – there is no Bass that way.  8)

It's a little salty, but not as bad as Pittsburg. At the top of a big incoming it can be salty to the taste.

As for security I used to launch there regularly, until my vehicle was broken into at 7am in broad daylight shortly after I launched. They ransacked my vehicle and spilled a 24 oz coffee everywhere! I still have coffee stains on the interior ceiling of my SUV. There is also broken glass in the lot almost at all times there, so I think break-ins are standard.

I have also seen young males partying and drinking heavily there with tattoos all over their faces and necks, would be a great place to get killed or stabbed for no reason.

But it is a FREE launch!!

Yes there is alot of salinity - more so on a high tide than a low tide. If in doubt- stick your hand in it and lick the water off of it for a taste test.

Yes your trailor will get rust on it if you do not wash it down. Your carpets when the wind is blowing/riding/bucking the 2' to 4' rollers will look like Ralphie waking up on Christmas morning when he recieved his red-ryder bb gun ... after they have dried out. ..... The rollers @ the triangle can even be bigger than that on an outgoing ebb tide with a westerly wind !

Launch out of Lauritzens for $8 on the weekdays, $10 on weekends. They have the best restrooms, a fish cleaning station - and I have never looked for one myself -- But I imagine they have a fresh water hose for a washdown/engine flush if you desire.

Pittsburg also has a free launch - and it is 10x better that the Antioch city launch for safety/surroundings/open eyes for a free launch.

Also FYI- Anticoh has begun the demolition of the park and starting construction of there new City launch @ the end of L st. and Riverview Lodge to the east. It prolly won't be free .... somewhat like the Berkley Launch on an "honor system" I would imagine.

Also there is some scuttle butt rumors that they are trying to get a ferry system into there for commuters to Oak/SF - so it very well could be a very big parking area with good tidal barier walls for the ramps.
