Taking my 9 year old out this weekend. Any advice?

I'm taking my 9 year old up to the Delta this weekend. I haven't fished for stripers there in about 5 years. He is really good with a spinning rod but not a bait caster so I'll probably by him a new medium heavy to heavy action spinning rod & spool it up with braid. Any advice on what to use & some general areas to go to get him his first striper? Thanks!

A few questions:

--Where are you coming from?

--Are you going to be in a boat? If YES, how big is your boat? Where do you plan to launch your boat? How far do you plan to go from where you launch?

We've been catching them in the Frank's Tract area and Montezuma Slough using Rat L Traps.

Launching out of Sugar Barge. We'll be in my 20 foot bass boat so covering water is not a problem.

2nd that rattle trap suggestion. Also Lucky Pointer jerk baits are working. Need current.
