Sacramento ISE Round Table Question Contest

Post by kb »

The ISE show in Sacramento is this weekend and we will have a great line-up of bass anglers on the demo tank. Skeet Reese, Gary Dobyns, Robert Lee, Mike Reynolds, Dave Rush, Greg Guiterrez, Jimmy Reese, Kent Brown, Jim Davis, Tony Franceschi, Zack Thompson, and more will be on hand to conduct seminars and answer questions.

On Saturday at 12:30 we will once again have the Bassmaster Champions "round table" seminar with Skeet Reese, Robert Lee, Gary Dobyns, Mike Reynolds and Greg Guiterrez. You get to ask all the questions and this year we are once again giving you the opportunity to have your question asked at the show. If your question is picked you will win 2 tickets to the show and they wll be left at the will call window. Please put your real name on the posts so the tickets can be left for you.

The contest will run Tuesday and Wednesday. We will pick the questions on Wednesday and notify of your winning question. You can direct the question to an individual angler or the group.

You must post the question under this thread on the forum!

See you at the show

To All...In light of recent events, do you think the west will ever be able to support a national level tour or circuit such as BASS or the BFL consistently, and what do you think has to happen to achieve this?
Thanks, Wes Moffett

To Gary...On lakes such as Shasta and Oroville it is hard to "break out" of the pack when everybody is catching the same 1 1/2lb fish. Do you focus on a different approach to the same areas, or look for a completely different bite to upgrade your catch?
Thanks, Wes Moffett

This question would be addressed to all the Pros. In your opinions, what should an Amatuer angler be prepared for when contemplating entering in a Pro/Am shared weight format tournament? Be it if they are a rookie or an experienced tournament angler. Give us a general overview please.

To all...We all read so many fantastic accounts of what is possible fishing with swimbaits...Are swimbaits going to be as revolutionary to tournament fishing as flipping or dropshot have become, or do you think it is a "swing for the fences" type thing?
Thanks, Wes Moffett

To All individually, If you could only fish one body of water (you pick the season) with only one lure, which body of water and what lure would it be? Why?

the questions to all pros . when prefishing for an upcoming tournament and the talk is the fish are killin a certain style of fishing whether it be rippin or flippin or drop shotting or crankin etc. if that type of fishing is not one of your strengths do you try to force yourself to fish that way ?or do you try to put something together that is one of strength's, mentally does it mess with your head when you know the best bites are to someone else's strength's.and do you fish against the fish or your competitors? thanks david hill

To All- When your fishing a tournament, how do you decide if your going to spend a lot of time in 1 general location, waiting for the fish you know are there to become active or hit the milk run and search out active fish?

This question is to all individually: how does the rookie professional go about approaching potential sponsors, is there a guideline or ground rules if you will that will give an angler a better chance at signing a deal and what are some obvious dont's that are a red flag to the potential sponsors right off the get go? thanks Scott Head

To Skeet, My wife owns her own hair salon so this question is from her. Her clients need to know: How in the world do you keep that hair so neat after going 70 mph in a bass boat all day and is there a secret formula for that hair color? Is this technique known in Japan like "the dropshot" and we will know in the united states in a couple years? Please let me know so i can pass it on to my clients. Thanks. Phil Hart

You are fishing a tournament on one of our clear, deep, spotted bass lakes in Nor-Cal. It is 10:00 AM and you have been throwing your favorite reaction bait(s) all morning. You have ZERO fish. It is cloudy and there is a light breeze on the water. At this point do you stay with your reaction baits and continue to look for bigger fish or do you go to small soft plastics to get some fish in the well? If you stay with reaction baits, at what point do you change to a finess tactic if the reaction baits are not working?

To Skeet......We always here about techniques that we use out west moving to the east. Is there anything you have learned back east that you use out west?
Don't ask about my username, all I need to say is check yours and check them often.

To Greg Guitterez

For years, I refused to darthead. I figured if they would eat a darthead than they would eat a dropshot with a 2 inch leader. However, Ive been smoked by partners who were using dartheads while I was dropshotting with very short leaders, so this year Ive decided to explore dartheading.

In your opinion, why do dartheads sometimes shine when other very similar presentations fail? Other than experimenting on the water, how would I be able to identify the conditions when dartheading would be the best presentation? And finally, what is the most important part of the presentation (i.e., retrieve rate, dead sticking, shaking, etc.) that leads to success with dartheading?

To all:

I am new to fishing NorCal water specificaly spots. When looking for better pods of Spots are there specific structure elements you want in the area.

Can you run by a point on your graph and determin if the area is condusive to larger spots? If so what elements are you looking for to determine that the spot will hold larger spots?

My question is for the entire panel.

Given the fact that B.A.S.S. has recently left the West and F.L.W. does not provide us a "Western Tour" please share your opinions of:

#1 Why, with all the outstanding fisheries and tournament anglers the West has to offer are we are faced with this unfortunate predicament?

#2 What can we do to change things for the future?

To all...If you could change any one thing about western tournament fishing to make the sponsorships and payouts better, what would you do?

To All- All tournaments have rules against trolling but I know for a fact that a lot of guys drag football head jigs and caroline rigs under the boat while using using the trolling motor to move the boat.
Can someone explain to me what the difference is and where we should draw the line.
If it's ok to drag a jig, is it ok to drag a Huddleston?

Thanks for the input,
James Huffmon

Question for all of the panel
On the Delta you hear that the tide has to be right, for the fish to turn on. What is the exact time on the Tide do the Bass turn on? Top?, Bottom?, just before it changes? just after it changes? Please be specific. And how do you know exactly when this happens in a particular area of the Delta? How long does this bite last ? Dan Pollard

To all panel member: Many of us fish and love the California Delta, a system of 1000 miles of waterway. The health of our cherished system is being threatened by increased water exports to Southern California and chronic levee system failures. What actions can we take as a group of local fishermen to draw attention to this threat to one of our state's richest wildlife environments?
