Post by Phil »

If you were fishing as non boater on Shasta or Oroville and could take 4 rods and reels, what 4 would you take to use and why ??

Jigs,

I would take a jig rod capable of throwing 1/2 oz to 1 oz football head jigs, 2nd rod would be a dropshot rod/darthead setup. 3rd rod would be a rip bait/crankbait rod and last I would have a spinnerbait setup. Of course many rods can be employed for double duty and makes it easier when adjusting to pattern changes.

Don't bring any rods, just bring one spinning reel with 6lb florocarbon and three bait casters with 10 to 15lb florocarbon. I'll sell you the best rods when you get here!!!

Darthead Rod
Dropshot Rod
Jig Rod
Spinnerbait/Ripbait/Crankbait rod

You can't go wrong with this setup. I see guys put down C-Rig, but it is not as easy to throw from the back of the boat. I know, some will say drag it, but be careful of the rules, when you do this.

dropshot rod
darthead rod (can double as another drophsot with different leader length)
Hula grub/jig rod
Utility rod (cranks/spinnerbait/spoon/topwater)

If ya want limit fish, stick with darthead and dropshot. My experience is hula grubs/jigs are just as good. But I know that many a tournie is won with a spinnerbait.

Jigs,

You gonna come up and fish as a co-angler for the Stren Series in March. I talked to Chris Jones yesterday and they still have Co-Angler spots available for the Shasta and the Delta. Pro spots are full with a wait list (208 pros signed up for all four and a bunch signed up for individual events)

If you are, let me know and we can pre-fish together for a day or two.
