2010 FPT Classic - A test for the best

STOCKTON, Ca. – Any attorney will tell you that making it through law school and obtaining a coveted Juris Doctorate degree awarded to those that withstand the grueling regiment of constant study is really not the most difficult part of becoming a bona fide and legal counselor of law.

For after all the text books are returned back to the library, and all of the lectures on the various points of law are concluded by their professors, law school graduates are required to pass a final test - cryptically called “the bar exam” before they can take their rightful place as certified jurists.

And very soon, qualifying Future Pro Tour anglers that have endured a grueling 9-month schedule which has required them to compete on eleven completely different lakes throughout northern and central California, will be put to their final test and have the opportunity to capture what has become the most prestigious and coveted title in amateur bass fishing – the Future Pro Tour Classic Championship, which will be held November 6th through 7th.

The 2010 Future Pro Tour Classic Championship – presented by Thunder Valley Outdoors, is truly a test for the best, and offers a challenge like none other for those willing to test their angling skills, as the competition will be held over a two-day period at two completely different venues: day 1) on Lake Camanche – a deep, clear water impoundment loaded with quality spotted bass, and day 2) on the world-famous California delta – a shallow water river system known for producing double-digit largemouth bass and featuring over 1000 miles of meandering sloughs, levies, PLUS a tide that changes every four hours!

But the challenges these Classic qualifiers will face during this “final exam”, is totally congruent with the mission statement of the Future Pro Tour, as the organization exists to help beginning to intermediate level anglers develop and constantly challenge their bass fishing skills in a fun yet competitive environment.

“You can’t possibly think that you are ready to graduate to the next level of this sport unless you are willing to constantly pit your angling skills against difficult challenges” noted Byron Velvick, multiple Bassmaster Classic qualifier and member of the Future Pro Tour’s Pro-Support Staff. You have to embrace all challenges and prepare yourself mentally for any set of variables placed before you, and be READY to compete”.

An unprecedented purse

At stake in this year’s Future Pro Tour Classic competition is an unprecedented purse worth over $80,000 in cash and prizes to a relatively small field of qualifiers. And this purse includes a new Ranger 188vs/Evinrude 150 E-Tech package, 2010 Toyota Tundra, and guaranteed cash to those finishing in 3rd thru 20th places.

The night prior to the event will be the traditional Future Pro Tour Classic celebration dinner, hosted at the beautiful Lexington Plaza Waterfront hotel, a 5-star luxury hotel located adjacent to the new Stockton Sports Complex, where sponsors, noted pro anglers, and several members of the media will meet and greet qualifying anglers during an up-scale cocktail mixer featuring a complementary wine pour by the newest members of the FPT’s family of sponsors – the owners and winemakers of WCP Wineries in San Luis Obispo, and followed by a gourmet buffet dinner served by the staff at the Lexington Plaza Waterfront Hotel.

“The city of Stockton is really looking forward to hosting the Thunder Valley Outdoors/Future Pro Tour Classic and this elite group of finalists”, commented Don Miller, director of the Stockton Sports Commission. We have hosted large venues such as the B.A.S.S Elite Series events, full-field FLW Tour events, and count the Future Pro Tour Classic Championship as another one of the high-profile events we are proud to host”.

The final day weigh-in will be held at the huge marina/park located directly behind the Lexington Plaza Hotel, and the entire public is invited to come out to see the drama as it unfolds and we crown our 2010 Classic champions. A FREE drawing for a grand prize will be held for EVERYONE that attends this final day weigh-in, with everyone in attendance being entered into a raffle for other great prizes, including 10 rod and reel combos for any of the kids in attendance.

This event will be televised on Comcast Sport Net California, so get ready…as the Thunder Valley Outdoors/Future Pro Tour presents its 8th annual Classic Championship event, and crowns one team the 2010 FPT Classic Champions …a title that honors them as the best amateur bass fishing team in the west!

See you all at the Classic!

Your rules say that based on ave draw which was 108 teams, you should have 37 teams and 3 wildcards , plus small boats for a total of 40 entries fishing the Classic..

I read the web site and you have 65 listed as qualifying for the Classic ... what's up with that?? Or did I miss something.. just asking...

6. FPT Classic Qualifying/Wildcards selections (applies to both divisions and both regions)

Classic Qualifiers will be determined based on the most points accumulated for seven events. There are no "throw out" points, as the total for all points earned in each event fished will determine if a team qualifiys for the FPT Classic. You must however, fish at least 6 of the seven scheduled events in your region to be eligible to qualifiy for the FPT Classic. The number of teams qualifying for the FPT Classic will be based on what the largest average draw for that division was over the seasons 7 scheduled events in accordance with the following table.

Please note that FPT specialty events, such as the "Swimbait Spectacular" will not be included in the formulas for FPT Classic, AOY, or FPT Classic Wildcard qualifying.

Also note that there is no "Travelers Region" in the FPT, therefore you cannot combine points from events fished in different regions to qualify for the FPT Classic, or AOY.

Div I – Small Boat Division

1-10 Boats: 1 Qualifier
11-25 Boats: 3 Qualifiers, 1 wildcard
25-50 Boats: 5 Qualifiers, 1 wildcard

Div II – Big Boat Division
