My Favorite jigs have always been the Rodstrainers with a pointed head because they came through the grass really well and the hook on Rodstrainers are awesome. But I can Never seem to find the pointed heads anymore. I was thinking of buying a few strike king Hack Attack jigs to try out because they look pretty sick.

This is pretty cool. I originally made this post almost 3 years ago (Thu Jan 17, 2008 9:01 am) and some how it resurfaced!

Thanks for everyone's input.

Gann's all the way. Great head designs for whatever type of structure/cover you are fishing. A quality hook that takes a bite, holds on and stands up to hauling big fish out of the heaviest stuff. Great color combinations and an exceptional trailer keeper. I use plastic trailers on my jigs no matter what the time of year. Yamamoto and Zoom usually.

For the Delta its a Wadda or one I tied.
But my favorite is a 1 ton, pretty much every where but the Delta. I used to tie these for myself also, but then I found Bass Patrol and I tied alot less.
Fishing should be fun.

Interesting thread with lots of opinions on jigs.
Andy summed it up with his KISS statement. A bass jig is simple; hook with a lead shape molded onto it.
The shape of the lead (or other heavy metal) is what determines how effective the jig will be and how it should be fished.
The hook, often over looked, is the primary component or business end of a jig.
The two basic presentations are; verticle and horizontal.
Veriticle is used to flip or pitch a jig into heavy cover, this jig requires some type of hook protection or guard.
Horizontal is your basic casting jig used to fish rocky deep structure or more open water areas, this type of jig may not need hook protection or a guard.
Andy is correct in stating you can fish a Arkie style weedless jig anywhere and you can't fish a deep structure type football head into heavy cover.
where I disagree with Andy; the verticle presentaion compact weedless jig may be the best all around jig, it's not the best deep rocky structure jig.
The reason is; the hook style used on flipping/pitching jigs should be compact heavy wire type and the casting jig ideally should have a longer shank standard or lighter wire hook style.
Skirt materials and trailer designs come and go. What is best only the angler can determine during the days or night outing.
My preference in skirts and trailers isn't a popular choice; I make my jigs and often use hair & pork.

For CL and the Delta there is nothing better than the Pepper Pro Model Jig in Delta Magic or Brown n Purple.
I also like the Pepper Football head in 1/2 or 3/8 on some of the deeper reservoirs same colors most of the time work.
Recently I have been playing around with the D&M Jigs. Great Colors, and the stand up head are a welcome addition to my
arsinal of jigs. As far as trailers, I used to be a reaction innovation user exclusivly, now I always have a D&M Maddog tied on,
more action that the RI Beavers and better plastic, they just hold up better.

I for one LOVE Jigs!! I've always liked jigs that have an enclosed eye and now that pretty much EVERYONE is making them its easy to find in stores, used to not be that way. I have all my jigs poured for me for a fraction of the price you can buy them anywhere else, and they're to my specs...would pour them myself but too lazy!! I tend to use jigs that have a wider base head for dragging and stand-up purposes. Colors are the simple regulars: Black, Brown, Watermelons.

Phenix baits has a new line-up of some really cool jigs coming out in about 3 weeks.
They have a new Football head jig that I designed that has some cool colors. I put a really good hook in them along with a hand painted head that is very chip resistant. Check them out soon.

1/2 oz Deadly Venom, Green Pumpkin head, Burnt watermelon skirt, Green pumpkin party Chigger craw.

This jig is on my rod, all the time, all year, all day!

Why? Next to split shot'n a ring worm, this jig has put more fish in the boat for me than any other lure.
OOOH...Watch out, I might sell something!
