Narrowing down Tournament Trails

Post by cull25 »

I am trying to figure out which tournament trail/trails I would like to fish and have noticed that there are almost too many to choose from out here. Can you guys tell me which trails seem to be the best. By best I am looking for events that are run well, number of boats, skill level of anglers, payouts, most fun etc. Any help is appreciated.

Also in other states that I have lived there have been calendars on the forums that list every tournament for every lake on one calendar on their websites. Does anything like that exist for Northern California?

I highly recomend Tracy Bass. They have open and amatuer series. Resonable entries, good payback, good people and a nice marina. Also an excelent tackle shop and a resteraunt/bar where you can have a hot breakfast in the morning and a drink in the afternoon. What more could you ask for? Even launch fee money goes into the TOC fund! Check em out.

Check out http://www.rbbassfishing.net/
Ron and his team do a great job as well as give pretty accurate insight.
Where are you located and what level do you want to compete in. There are multiple clubs, amateur circuits Future Pro, AC/WRL, CBAF, pro circuits WON, ABA, AC (anglers choice)

Thanks for the sites!

I am in Walnut Creek and just moved out here. I have fished ABA weekend series in the past and was doing the BASS Federation Nation before I moved here this fall. I sold my boat over the summer and am still trying to find a replacement. So as of now I am looking to try to meet some people and possibly do team events or I am willing to do some non-boater type events. I think that is what you are calling pro/am out here. Correct? I have to get used to fishing out of the back of the boat again but I would rather do that than not fish.

I noticed you came out from NJ to Walnut Creek. Howdy neighbor, I'm just down the road here in Oakley. The ABA you fished with is a different group of folks then the guys out here running American Bass. We refer to them as the ABA but they are two different groups.

Bass Angler Magazine was once our tournament calendar out here and still puts out a calendar with each issue and has a website to find the same info I believe. TomL used to have a tournament calendar site also but I'm not sure if its still out there and being maintained, he could likely answer that.

Many of the orgs website links can be found on the bottom of our Find A Partner pages on this site:

Are you looking to fish draws or teams? There's lots of options for you.

PS - We've never thrown a page of all tournament activity together for two reasons. One was the information changes so much and sometimes without notice that it's hard to keep it accurate on our pages and rather then build one we preferred to point people to as many of the orgs as we've become aware of on the net. The second reason was because Mark Lassagne and I have been friends for many years and I never wanted to do anything that would take away from his work with, what was then the calendar, only now it's grown into a full fledged magazine with a calendar insert.

Cull25,
Welcome to the "crazy" state and welcome to the neighborhood.
I am also just up the road from you in Fairfield.

I noticed you said you fished the Federation Nation in NJ.
Well out here in CA, we seceded from B.A.S.S. and went with FLW, so we have the Ca Bass Federation here. Same format, same scenario, just you work your way towards the Forest Wood Cup vs. the Classic.Check us out here: http://www.californiabass.org/

I run the Shasta Region 5 tourneys, but also close to you is Region 1 Delta and Region 3 Sacramento.

Check us out and dont hestitate to contact me if you have questions or want to fish.

Good Luck,

Kopper

I was doing the ABA(American Bass Anglers) draw trail when I fisrt got into fishing tournaments. I was moving around alot and there seemed to be a district everywhere that I lived. I fished with them in Ohio,Kentucky,Tennessee,Mississippi, and a couple in Iowa. I never really joined them in Jersey because they were all on one body of water and were really geared to the the river rats out there. Plus they were not really pulling any boats.

The club I was in in NJ was both B.A.S.S. and FLW recognized. I only fished the Fed Nation points tournaments and then fished the State Steam Tournaments with FLW.(TBF).. I am not opposed to fishing the TBF tournaments, but the others in my club had some beef with them out there. There used to only be one Federation and when it split half stayed BASS the other went FLW. It caused some tension and a mini soap opera as I called it. I was not around during the split so I formed my own opinions.

With that said I am hoping to join a club that is associated with one or both. I have done enough tournaments from the back of the boat and have for the most part had really good experiences. Now that I dont have a boat at the time I am going to have to do it more. I honestly didn't know anybody when I moved here and have now met a couple guys that have offered to at least get me out on the water.

In all honesty, I would like to find a team tournament and partner. It is nice to be able to put both heads together and also help offset some costs. But I more than likely will try to find a draw trail as well. I am going to take a look and see what is out there.

Kopper,
I will probably be contacting you to learn more.
