SuperMat makes cover of Bassmaster

Post by Deacon »

I wanted to share this with you guys. Im sure most of you know Matt Allen AKA SuperMat. Well he made it to the front page of Bassmaster.com. Phenominal feat for one of the nicest guys out there and its a awesome way to represent the big fish hunters let alone the fishermen/women of Northern CA. I for one really appreciate everything that Matt does for the fishing communtiy. He shares all of his fishing knowledge with anyone and everyone. That is a rare thing these days with all the trophy hunters out there these days.

Check it out guys. http://tacticalbassin.com/17-lber-untold-story/

Good job bro. A very cool story and stoked you got some props!!!

That is terrific. He is being rewarded for his efforts, and he should be.
He is truly generous, with everything he shares.
I've found the there are a group of big bait anglers and bait builders who are very generous with their hard earned knowledge.
Bill Siemantel, Matt Newman, Mike Long, and, most recently at the BAT, Jerry Rago, come to mind, but there are more.
These guys don't hold anything back, and seem to enjoy sharing and teaching as much as fishing, or, at least, they make it seem that way when they talk to you.
And you can walk up any one of them and they will take the time to talk to you.
A great group.

Mark...I don't disagree with your list of guys who are willing to share valuable information regarding swimbaits, but they all have one thing in common...they all are extrinsically motivated because they sell/market related merchandise for monetary gain. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that but to my knowledge Matt Allen isn't representing a for-profit entity, so he is truly acting out of benevolence. He has answered many questions and helped me multiple times and I sincerely appreciate his willingness to do so. I think he is more along the lines of Don "Bassindon" Moorman and Chris "FishChris" Wolfgram. Before they decided to get out of the fracus they both helped countless swimbait guys and to my knowledge never made a dime doing it. Those three are all sincerely generous men who have elevated the game of many just for the sake of helping fellow fishermen.
Congrats on the recognition, Matt.

Tree - has hit it on the nose Matt Allen is generous in terms of starting a conversation and sharing his insights or the insights of others that gets one thinking engaged in this sport of bassfishing. Very personable and generous man.

The story itself is way more amazing that it being on bassmaster.com. That is something you will never forget. Truely ridiculous. Congrats Matt!

Tin Can,
I will never, ever forget it. Nothing could have gone more wrong... except not getting the fish. You want to talk about learning the hard way... you name it, I've messed it up. I wouldn't even throw a speed trap these days on the rod I used to "lob" a huddleston with. Those were tough days but the fish were (equally pressured) but not as wise. That let me do it all wrong and still catch some fish here and there. :D
Thanks for taking the time to read the story, I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Awesome story Matt.
What's not captured in the stories and video's is the amount of time put into catching giant bass like this.
You've certainly put your share in, congratulations, you deserve it!

Geez--I think you posted this on three other boards. Don't embarrass the guy (or yourself, for that matter) by coming across as a stalker/fanboy. Is that a little chub I see--let me get you a kleenex.

Thanks fish_food you sound like a really cool guy. Matt is one of my closest friends so yes I am very proud of his accomplishments. To have one of my bros make it to the cover of Bassmasters is a helluva feat. If you want to throw a little dirt on it thats cool. It doesnt hurt me Matt or anyone else and it only makes you look like a jackass. And YES I did post to this site and 1 other site. Im not afraid to admit that. Its all good.......

No one's throwing dirt on his fishing skills or accomplishments--that wouldn't be cool at all. He's got much to be proud of.

I randomly came across three of your announcements so I think you lost count in your enthusiasm. Take a cold shower and stop walking around with that pants tent... :D

Fanboy enthusiasm isn't very becoming--it's kinda embarrassing!

I've seen situations like that with big fish but never with a happy ending. They've managed to outsmart the catcher. Nice going.
