Pay as you go
Pay as you go
2/13/10
President Barack Obama is hailing pay-as-you-go budget legislation he signed Friday night as one in a series of crucial steps needed to snap Washington out of a destructive pattern of overspending.
“Now, Congress will have to pay for what it spends, just like everybody else,” Obama said in his radio and Internet address released Saturday morning. “After a decade of profligacy, the American people are tired of politicians who talk the talk but don’t walk the walk when it comes to fiscal responsibility. It’s easy to get up in front of the cameras and rant against exploding deficits. What’s hard is actually getting deficits under control. But that’s what we must do.”
So where is the money coming from to extend unemployment benefits!

Re: Pay as you go
The same place it comes from for nearly everything else. Thin air. From the Feds balance sheet into major banks reserve accounts and then off to the lucky first users (before the inflation begins to ripple outward) who are the govt and the companies it does direct business with.
Taxes couldn't keep just the military alive without going way up, due to the plummeting purchasing power of the dollar, much less any domestic entitlement.
If people knew what it all really cost they would revolt.
The only way they can keep the illusion alive is to keep inflating, for now.

Re: Pay as you go
Aw yes the pay-go rule...
Yes, there needs to be some redistribution in order to soften the blow to our middle/lower class. What is a shame is the banks were bailed out and two wars were funded yet people don't have empathy for extending unemployment to the general population.
So you know I don't have a dog in this fight and am fortunate to be working.
btw why start a new thread?

F4F,
So how long are we suppose to take care of these people? It was today on the news that most unemployed people are taking advantage of there unemployment checks. So do you like your tax dollars being taking advantage by these people when theirs thousands of jobs out their, they might not be high dolllar jobs but there jobs.
As long as we keep babying these people they will take advantage of these checks we keep giving to them and not look for a job.Like I said before you can go on craigs list and see that there's a lot of job openings and good jobs too, but now we are creating a lot of lazy greedie selfish people as long as we keep giving.

Sounds like you didn't do your homework before starting a business OR you thought things were gonna change. Check out craigslist or better yet Texas2ndsuks wrote:Unfortunately, I do, I'm one of those stuck paying for it!fun4fish wrote:So you know I don't have a dog in this fight and am fortunate to be working.

I've been following the news ever since the right started that smear campaign and there's a lot of biased BS behind it. Like all systems there are a certain percentage of people that take advantage of the system. To put everyone in the same boat is narrow minded and shows your lack of understanding. How is a family of four let alone two going to pay bills on $10/hr?Skeeterman wrote:F4F,

And I've been on Craigslist looking to change fields. Nearly every opening has about 100+ applicants and there's probably 90% fewer openings compared to two years ago.

.

Let me ask you this, if the Obama administration is so optimistic about the economy, then why do we need the unemployment extensions in the first place

LOL I think people in Texas are outsmarting some in California.Skeeterman wrote:People running Texas is out smarting people running Ca. do you think?

Yes, it is welfare. If you don't think I will be paying for these extensions through other tax increases you're mistaken.2ndsuks wrote:I honestly have no idea what the homework comment is all aboutfun4fish wrote: Sounds like you didn't do your homework before starting a business OR you thought things were gonna change. Of course you're for the extensions you won't have to pay for it in taxes!

The Obama administration is optimistic about the economy because they need people to keep spending. If Bush Jr was still in the seat would it be any different? No, no one in that kind of position is going to tell it how it is.
Had we not been in an election year the bill would have passed

I know I may not be the most grammatically correct, but this just looked a little funny to me.Skeeterman wrote:People running Texas is out smarting people running Ca. do you think?

Re: Pay as you go
What's hard for me to grasp is the fact that f4f and I'm sure many liberals like him know that their policies are not working and California is proof, yet they keep voting in the left.

Re: Pay as you go
What's the matter f4fish are you stumped ?
Why do you keep voting in liberal politicians in California when it's obvious their policies are not working?

Re: Pay as you go
That means you either don't vote or you don't vote for democrats, wow which one?
Re: Pay as you go
I vote on the issue not the party
Re: Pay as you go
I had serious issues with Jerry Brown, I sure hope you didn't vote that issue back into office.

Re: Pay as you go
Sweden had 5 years for UE and found that miraculously most of the people taking it got a job right as the benefits ran out. They cut it to 4 years and what do you know, the same thing happened. Now thay are cutting it to 3 and you know the same thing will occur. Fact is UE will be taken until it runs out then the takers will scramble for any job that will put food on the table. People can and do live on less if they are forced to. Might have to give up the second car, the cellphones and computer and move into a cheap apartment but they will survive. Long term UE is welfare plain and simple and it hurts the recovery.

Re: Pay as you go
The problem is, many Americans feel it is humanitarianism and we owe it to the poor workers that find themselves unemployed. What's worse is the democrats own it. How many lazy deadbeats are going to turn down free money when the left will supply that free money in return for votes! The more I hear people mad that the "wealthy" are getting tax cuts while the middle class are getting the shaft, the more I detest them. I'll bet that the majority of the liberal politicians regurgitating this mantra are wealthy themselves, I'd also be willing to bet not a one of them voluntarily contribute more to the IRS, if they did we all know it would made public and in the headlines.
It really gets under my skin that anyone would feel they are entitled to another man's money!

Re: Pay as you go
Agreed.
I would say that there are a lot of left leaning people who are just plain economically ignorant. They wouldn't know what moral hazard was if you handed them a copy of Webster's. These people have let a human sense of compassion be manipulated by smarter lefties who know damn well what they are doing.
They have led them to see suffering and inequity in the world and let that be the basis for legitimatizing wholesale theft, as though that wouldn't work out into poverty for all if carried to it's inevitable conclusion.
I would only defend them so far as they, unlike those who have played them, don't see what they are doing. They should however, especially when there are plenty of people willing to explain it in a very detailed and logical fashion. They just won't let go of what they have become SURE that they know as fact.
