Awesome new fishing show on Versus!

Post by 2ndsuks »

Check out the new “Big Bass Battle” on the Versus channel, it was on this morning at 8:30am and will air again Thursday @ 10:00am and again Friday @ 7:30am.
It’s pretty cool to see one of our own guys on a nationally televised show , this episode was filmed on Lake Fork in Texas.
What’s funny as hell is, Gary Dobyns slaps Mark Pack (of all places ) on the belly and say’s “you’re in trouble Pack”
I hope it comes to California for a few shoots
You guys need to see it, it’s a really good show.

Thanks Tobe. I wanted to get Pack's belly before he got mine :D I missed the dang show myself but did see a rough cut a while back. It was fun, no big ones but plenty of 3, 4, and a few 5's. Strongest dang fish I've ever seen. The whole lake is trees. I had a GIANT wrap me in a tree on that show. That's the way it goes in that jungle. Big line and power them or cry about it later

Versus is behind on their guide. On new shows it takes a while for them to get going. Next airing is Thurs 1:00 PM EST and Fri @ 10:30 AM EST

Thanks

Spent 5 days at Fork fishing with the Lake Fork legend. I caught my PB with Mark. Great people back there. Pack is funny too. He'll look at you and say you gonna weigh that fish or set the hook. Uh Huh Uh Huh. Or, you know what I like about you Paul, Nothing LMAO. Bar none it was the best time I have ever had. I learned a lot too. Mark is a great teacher. Those Hyper Sticks work well too. I even caught that toad with a Dobyns rod. Yeah I know, shameless pimp. First time I had ever used one. Hopefully the big bass battle will be well recieved. The folks at Lake Fork Tackle are top drawer.

I dumped Direct yesterday and now have Comscam. It is on the guide, and is set to record.
Fishing should be fun.

Nothing against any of the fisherman in the show, but if it dont get better, it wont be on long. I thought the producer did an awful job with the footage. I hope it improves, it is just the first episode.
Fishing should be fun.

I loved the show and the format and i think it will do nothing but get better. TO ME nothing seemed staged or rehearsed, it all seemed natural which is what i liked about it. The down home, smack talking adds some fun for us the viewers as well. Keep up the good work and I know this show will be around for awile. Cant wait to see more episodes. You guys who did the show get to watch it so you know what you liek to see in a fishign show and i think this is somethign new and you will see others follow i just bet

Last month I fished Fork for the first time, loved it. Yeah, lots of trees, but I found a lot of Texas lakes are similar, except a lot still have leaves on them (Amistad, Falcon, etc.). Fishing was tough, but worse was losing an eight at the boat. Hit a Super Spook (Derek, it's the one you loaned me but I forgot to give back at the end of our day- got tons of fish on it since ;/).

Got to get someone to record this for me, I don't subscribe to any cable.

Just watch it on VS Ch 603 in Brentwood at 8 am (31 Dec) – I really like watching fishing show when I know someone that is in the show. I really like it and love the smack talk.

One question, Justin (I believe his name was - the youngest of the four and the one that did not have a gut) with ATM shirt. Said, when he was returning the Bass he caught that it was a male. He said you can tell because of the bottom jaw of a male comes to a point. I have never heard or read about this. Does anyone know about this?

Honestly Marty, I heard Justin say that as well. In my younger years prior to catch & release I was real good at spotting the males from females with my 8 inch filet knife  But, I have not heard about the pointed jaw on bass either. Could very well be true and it'd be a great question for Kyle Murphy or Dennis Lee at the ISE show. Dang kids like Justin are far smarter than most of us older "rednecks" so I'd probably believe him :D :D

Justin is a total CLASS ACT. He is a very polite, nice young man, and he can fish.

Thanks Gary – I have seen some of the bass that I have caught have the pointed lower jaw but I thought it came from the Bass digging for crawdads.

Personally I liked the show. It has a personal feel to it, instead of a bunch political correctness such as, well maybe we shouldn't kid around , it won't look professional or say it like this so, the audience will receive better. I like it the way it is. If you've ever fished a tournament with your friends and/or buddies this is what it's like. Good ole boys havin' good ole fun. Heck, I've had that much fun fishing against total strangers, by the end of the tournament you're not strangers anymore. After several days of contact with folks you come to know their personalities, except what you do and don't like about them but, still respect them as fellow fisherman in this sport we all love. My hats off to Gary Dobyns, Mark Pack, Cody Roberson and Justin Rackley for puttin' the first show out there. You gotta start somewhere and sittin' on the porch talkin' about it won't get it done. I think it's overall good exposure and I can't wait to see more.
