QUANTUM SMOKE VS SHIMANO CURADO 200E
Has anyone purchased a Quatum smoke yet? If so how do you like it? And can you compare it to any other reels? Specifically the Shimano Curado 200e? I have 4 curados 2 DHSV model's and 2 new 200e's. I love them and think they are great. Just wondering if I should venture out to try Abu's Revo's or a Daiwa or this new Quantum smoke? Any feedback is appreciated.
Thanks

Glad you posted this. I was wondering the same thing about the smoke. That reel looks awesome.

I'm sure the Smoke is awesum! My only concern which KNOWBODY will be able to answer is longevity! I know Shimano's last forever.

Re: QUANTUM SMOKE VS SHIMANO CURADO 200E
I checked one out at a store couple of months ago. Having used Quantum reels for a good 15 years, I can tell you this is the smoothest one yet. Cranking the handle is like butter; flick the free spool and it spins for a long time before gradually coming to a stop. I never felt a Quantum this smooth before and, in my opinion, that put it up there with the higher end reels by other top brands. Didn't buy one yet, but I'm looking to soon. As for longevity, yeah, that's still up in the air, but I've had quantums last several years before something going wrong.

I guess it's hard to beat a curado for $180. They cast, they retrieve and they are smooth as your gonna need. Plus they are reliable not to say the other's aren't but you hear less about curado's needing repairs than the other's, at least I do. Thanks for the feed back guy's. I think I will put my hands on a quantum smoke at the ISE show. I actually need 3 reels one will be an old school curado BANTUM200SF and the other 2 are open but I am thinking another curado 200E and maybe a smoke or possibly an abu revo or a diawa not sure just interested in trying something other than a curado.Bass Pro Shopper wrote:I checked one out at a store couple of months ago. I have a number of curados. Some of them are 10-12 years old. I took all of them in to a local repair shop to be completely gone through. When I picked them up I was pleasently surprised to find out that most of the replacement parts were covered under warranty. Thats good enough for me to keep buying Shimano.

Re: QUANTUM SMOKE VS SHIMANO CURADO 200E
I bought a Smoke 100 to use for lighter baits. I was looking for something that throws like my old MG 50s, but not as expensive as the new Shimano MGs.
My reel throws light cranks from 3/8oz fine, but it doesn't handle the 5/16oz stuff as well as the old MGs.
It is smooth and has a good drag, but I set my drags light and use my thumb on the spool a lot, so I'm not as worried about the drag strength.

Re: QUANTUM SMOKE VS SHIMANO CURADO 200E
In my experience Quantum=garbage, might as well label it what it realy is, Zebco. I dont trust a company that revamps their line up every year or two, seems like more work goes in to marketing the product than engineering it. I used the accurist line for a while, and they were good reels for about a year then the drags start to go, and yes I loosen my drags everytime I put my rods back on the rack. After years of experimenting with about every reel available I stick with the top two Shimano and Daiwa, both will last just about forever. Don't waste your money on a quantum unless you want to be dissapointed, go with the tried and true, Curado.

dont forget the daiwa..
a reel is only as good as the company that is willing to stand behind it..thus why i never was into shimano..

Re: QUANTUM SMOKE VS SHIMANO CURADO 200E
I would go with the curados. With curados being sold for 140 now since the new models are coming out thats even more of a reason to go with a shimano. I have 4 of the curados in the 201 and I have never been happier and shimanos always seem to last forever.
Re: QUANTUM SMOKE VS SHIMANO CURADO 200E
I made the mistake of buying 6 Quantum baitcasters and 1 Quantam spinning reel over the years. I was disappointed with each of them and ended up sending a batch of them to the factory for warranty repairs. They came back no better than before. I haven't owned any Quantum reels in years since I swore off them after that. I ended up giving them away to family and friends who don't fish much. On the other hand, I've owned many Shimano, Daiwa and Revos over the years I have been happy with and are still going strong. Just my .02.
