The WON Bass Pro Circuit will be coming to Payson and Roosevelt Lake the weekend of February 12 & 13 with one of their Western Division tournaments. The Host Hotel for this tournament will be the Mazatzal Hotel and Casino in Payson. The registration and pre-tournament mandatory meeting will be held Friday, February 11, at the Mazatzal bingo room. The registration will be from 2-5 PM with the mandatory pre-tournament meeting beginning at 6 PM. The WON tournament director, Billy Egan will conduct the meeting. Weigh-ins both days will be held at the Cholla Recreational Site at Roosevelt Lake and our Payson volunteer committee will provide the same level of support as we plan to do for the FLW tournaments. Traffic control, carts, music, food/soda, etc will all be in place to support WON. On Sunday, February 13, the awards ceremony will take place at the Mazatzal H & C in Payson from 5-7 PM. You can get more details and see the flyer on this tournament on the WON Bass website. If there is anything our volunteer committee can help with, send a PM.
BTW - Temperatures in Tonto Basin will be in the mid 60's and a local angler caught a 10.8 lber a couple of days ago.....
WON Bass - Roosvelt Lake
Re: WON Bass - Roosvelt Lake
Thanks for all your efforts to support bass fishing tournaments with your Payson volunteer group. The fishermen and bass fishing organizations rarely get local volunteer support helping them and it is very much appreciated to know that we are being welcomed by the community.
Re: WON Bass - Roosvelt Lake
Thanks for the feedback, we'll pass your comments along to our team. We met yesterday and worked out a few more details:
Feb 11 (Friday) – The Gila County Sherriff Office (GCSO) Lake Patrol (LP) will be set up in the Cholla parking lot and on the water at the Cholla Dock from 10 AM - 2 PM conducting boat safety inspections. This is completely voluntary on the part of the anglers. The inspection will consist of verifying fishing license, boat registration, charged fire extinguisher, PFD and throw ring. Upon successful completion of the inspection, the boat owner will be given a pink (or some color) card. If during the tournament, a LP boat approaches an angler to perform an inspection, they can hold up the card and the LP will move on. Again, completely voluntary but it could avoid a possible inspection during the tournament. If an angler is fishing both the WON and FLW EverStart tournaments, only one inspection will be performed and the card can be used for both tournaments.
We will have Tonto Parking passes for sale at the pre-tournament meeting (they actually have the passes this year!). You can purchase them daily or if you plan to fish both tournaments and do some prefishing it might be cheaper to purchase an annual pass. Check out the TNF website, you can purchase them on line and there are different prices for age groups, military etc. We get a daily update from the TNF on how many "coupons" they write each day of every tournament. They check every lot every day, just a heads up. PM me if our group can help with anything.

Re: WON Bass - Roosvelt Lake a couple tips, b
Fishing the 3 Southern Pro/Am events I am. I've been on the fence about fishing the 3 South div. pro/ams because I’ve never been on Roosevelt, have limited time on mead but consider Havasu my home lake even though I live 5 hours away. Regarding Roosevelt, I have read it’s a big fun lake: Can anyone offer up a couple tips, baits and colors as a base to start. It’s very much appreciated.
PS - thanks Robert for the encouragement to make the commitment, challenge myself and test my skills at a higher level against a larger and more talented field of anglers. I'm fired up and started working on my tackle.
