Info on Roosevelt Lake-Payson, AZ

Post by jimmyG »

Never been there be before, will be fishing Everstart in February. so,

1) How long will it take me to drive(not towing) there from Sacramento?

2) What type tackle and gear should I bring?

3) Other than the host hotel, is there any other lodging close by?

Please/Thank you for any assistance. You can PM if you like.

(1) A long time. REALLY long time.
(2) Last time we went there (same time as this years event) it was early spawn. Weather was not stable and messed things up pretty good.(It snowed) Probably can go through the FLW archives to research patterns.
(3) A lot of lodging options. Host hotel is not real close to lake/launch. It is convenient to town which is a really nice place IMO. I would stay in town even though it is a long drive to the lake every day.

Hey Robert - bite your tongue. We're all praying for good weather over here this year. Just prior to the FLW Stren two years ago had a cold front come it that shut the bite down, then last year we had the monsoon and mudslides!! LOL We're due for a break this year. The drive is 30 mins. from the Mazatzal Hotel to the Cholla ramp. www.paysonrimcountry.com has a list of all hotels/motels and the rates in the area including Tonto Basin. Also you’ll see on the website a Chamber Discount Card with information about lodging, restaurant and activity discounts during the tournaments (WON and FLW). We’ll be passing the discounts cards out at the pre-tournament meeting and we’ll be selling the TNF parking passes. I know it’s a long drive for some, but the Tackle Box in Tonto Basin is sponsoring the 2nd Annual No Slot tournament on Feb. 5. This is great way to pre-fish and possibly win your way into the FLW EverStart tournament. For more details on this call John Sneed at 928-469-2108. Our volunteer committee is close to announcing some great ideas we’ve been planning. Hopefully, we’ll get those resolved this week and get authorization to announce them. The Town of Payson and our committee understand the anglers and the tournaments are our customers. So if there is anything we can do to help you with your planning just ask. As an example, last year I had three boats parking in my driveway for a week so guys could go home and come back. We even pick a few guys up at the Phoenix airport.

A few of us local anglers were talking last week and observed that when we get 2-3 days of calm warmer weather the bite is picking up dramatically….Hope to see ya’ll here

I will help you there Jim. No slot will be a great time. I am looking at coming to the event to cover it for my website. Good luck all.

I listed the wrong phone number to get information on the No Slot tournament schedule for Feb. 5th. For those details or registration, contact John Sneed at 928-581-6299.
