Titanium Covered Side Plates

I have been seeing a few reel manufactures using this titanium coating process on side plates. Plueger, Quantum, Pinnacle, etc. How is the durabilty of this finish? Is it as really scratch proof as they say? How does this process do against corrosion? Any help would be appreciated.

it is durable I have Quantums that are 6 years old and the only noticeable scratches are where the titanium is not
