Bassindon ?

Post by raverfusion »

hey Bassindon guys. you are catching some incredible fish and all. but why are you bluring the backround of your photos? If your worried about us seeing your fishing spots...you shouldnt be.

Look this is lafayette res last spring:

and this is an apartment lake:Image

its nice to have the proof that the fish was caught where you say it is. :)

Raverfusion, why can't you just say "Hey Don keep up the good work, you are catching some nice fish." Why the negativity, and disbelief that Don is catching these fish on Public Water. If these fish weren't on Public Water don't you think he would post the background? More than likely if those fish were caught in a pond nobody would know where it was anyway. Maybe Don has been out there fishing his butt off and has been doing his own legwork and doesn't want other people to pre-fish off of his photos. Maybe he fishes small waterways and like a lot of other big fish guys that fish small lakes, he doesn't want people to know where he is fishing in fear of overfishing and overcrowding. If you look at other sites that post a lot of big fish photos most of the guys catching big fish block out the background.
All I can say is keep up the good work and keep catching those big fish Don!

holy crap, used to fish Lafayette Res as a kid - we road our bikes there with our metal tackle boxes tied to the front handlebars all the way from Burton Valley out by St Marys College - and never saw anything like that.

the odd trout that jumped on the hook, some sunfish/perch, but nothing like that, nice fish

Who cares about fish from last spring? I got a bunch of spring photo's too. Don has put some awesome photo's of fish he actually caught this winter. More interesting is maybe your a tad bit jealous cause he goes out and get's it done, while your digging out pics from last spring???

perspective

Post by swimbait »

Jesse,

I think that it's an issue of perspective. I posted full fishing reports with pics online for years and never saw any reason to do otherwise. What gave me a different persepctive was when I started going to the lake and seeing people doing the same things I was doing in the same places which for me made the day less enjoyable.

See the thing is, the more big fish you catch or the better you do in tournament fishing, the more people pay attention and start to come after you. If you haven't experienced that, you don't understand why people blank out the backgrounds on their pics. Once you have experienced it, you'll understand exactly why.

And you have to understand also that big bass is one thing, and tournament fishing is another level completely. Me catching some big fish on some small lakes might bring out a few guys. But when you win tournaments, you bring out a whole lot more guys and people are way more agressive because there's money involved.

I don't know if you've fished for money but once you tune in to what is happening, you'll see that even team fishing can be cutthroat to the max. I'm not complaining, it's just reality. If I show a spot now, phhh it'll be hosed by next weekend I guarantee. No one cared when I was 18 years old catching 3lbers but they sure care when there's an entry fee on the line.

You might wonder then, why show anything at all? The answer for me has a lot to do with my sponsors and the people who comp me product. Showing pics is a way for me to give back to them because up until recently, I didn't fish tournaments and couldn't thank them there. Do I like showing off a little too, sure I do, but it's more than just a bragging board.

So whether you agree or disagree, I would just encourage you to think about things from different perspectives.

yeah what ever man. you missed the point of the topic. I was just curious why he deliberatly blocks the backround..he is the only one I see that does that, and that is fine... everyone else crops the pics..Im not jealous cause I work my butt of too and catch them just like you all do.(just got a 6.5 in "secret delta spot" Cough Coouugh Rock slough  {Thanks Cooch}) I posted thoses pics because they are what I have on my photobucket at the moment that has "findable Backround" which was showing my point. and yes Rob, I understand your point, and agree, and respect you as we have talked before....I do find it funny that guys will use photos pictured to go and find "secret big fish spot" what a waste of fishing time...like they will catch that fish by going there. Now if we talk about skagg rock thats another story :D ..and its a little obvious cause we all catch big fish there in the winter. Also if you are known like Rob is for big fish... I would worry more about guys following you in a tourney, or if they spot you out fishing, then a little point or rock in the backround of your photo...LOL
but anyways..Good work BassinDon(13)(69)(#....)

Dont feel like the lone ranger dude! I think its pretty childish to do that also (white out the background) if your THAT worried about YOUR spot then dont post the pic! Or take the photo with just a sky background or just tulies as a background! Something. But to take the time to blur or white out the background seems pretty pompass to me.

But hey, I'm pretty childish, and have been called pompass before too!

Mike what does it matter if a guy blocks out the background. You say it is "childish" to block out the backgroud and why can't you take the picture with a "sky background" or "tullie Background". Maybe Don fishes by himself and has his camera on a timer and can't take the photo with a sky, tullie or water background. I would say that it is "childish" for you to complain about it. I am sure there there are more people on this site that would agree with me than not. You don't need to know where a person is catching them, only that they are. Why can't a guy just show us what he is catching and let him be proud without somebody being negative.

You may not think showing the background would draw more people to a lake but it will. I'm sure there are tons of people lurking on this site that never post or have any input on anything. Their sole purpose is to see if they can prefish off this site. I'm sure there a people that look at the photos to see where people are catching big fish. Maybe not everybody would run out to a lake where big fish are being caught but i'm sure there are a number of people who would. I'm sure Don doesn't want to bring anymore added pressure on his pattern or to the lakes where he is fishing.

Raverfusion by showing the background at a lake lots of people that fish that lake would know exactly where it is. It isn't hard to recognize a tree, shoreline, rock formation etc if you are familiar with a lake. And it isn't that you would catch "that" fish but the fact that the spot depicted in the photo produced a big fish so I would only imagine that there was something there that the big fish liked, therefore there would be more big fish there.

Say you fish lake X. You see a photo of lake X on the internet and a guy is holding a 10+lber. The picture is a nice big picture and shows the whole shoreline and you think he caught the at the spot in the photo because the lure is still in the fishes mouth. Next time you go to the lake you are having a tough day and while you are moving spots you see the shoreline that was in the photo you saw on the internet. You have never fished that spot before but you figure why not give it a try. I would be upset if I were fishing a tournament and pulled up on that spot and somebody was on it (like we always are), you might not know that they found out about this spot by seeing a photo on the internet but none the less you would be upset. Don is totally eliminating this by not saying which lake he caught the fish at and blocking out the background.

Don, I just like looking at the photos, I don't care if the background is blurry, just keep catching big fish.

Dude, dont stay up all nite thinking about Don's pictures!! He has been posting pic's like that for months and I thought to myself that it was kinda odd but I didn't say anything, until this other dude said something about it and I was just agreeing with him. I didn't start this thread. If I, Don or anyone else catches a nice fish there are plenty of ways to misslead someone from "pre-fishing" off of the photo section. Like I said, change the back ground, or go to a well known spot and take the pic to send "them" on a wild goose chase. No, I got it.....use the photo shop and change the background to a mountain top or the ocean or the desert that will teach them lookey loo's.........Yor sure have alot of (DEEP) anger. Maybe you should change your screen name to Deep Anger. Hey why are you hiding behind a screen name anyway???? Are you trying to misslead us??? Is this some kind of reverse phycology????? Whats in your background??????

Mike i'm not hiding behind my screen name. My name is Jake Jensen and I live in Fresno. I have nothing in my background that I am hiding behind. I am a Deputy Sheriff here in Fresno and have been for almost 7 yrs so I have nothing to hide in my background.

Now you are saying "change the background"? Isn't that what you were complaining about? Make up your mind. I'm done beating this horse!
