if you have the grey hose with the red/orange lettering, you need to change it now...........
the ethenol fuel is eating up the liners. it will plug filters, carbs and injectors. can cause lean burn and piston issues
change it before it costs you some big bucks.

The funny thing is some dealers are not telling people about it until it's too late and the damage is done. Change out the grey lines and replace it with the new updated line, even a year old boat may have the old lines on it.

How do you know if your buying the "updated" line? Are there ant specific marking on the replacement on the lines? Who has them in stock for a 04' Merc 225 Opti?

If the letters on the hose are red no good. Blue letters are good. Very inexpensive to change and if there is any question change it. Here at Anglers Marine we inspect everyones boat and let everyone know about this. Doesn't take long for the word to get out. Going through hose like fishing line. Great Post

If you have really old lines, then it probably would be best to change them, but regardless, start using and using with each fillup the Stabil Marine additive, which stops damage from the Ethynol in our fuel. And that is the blue
Stabil. Between the two, new lines and additive, you will just about 100% stop your fuel problems and clogged filters, disolving tank liners and fuel lines. It is cheap insurance. BIll K :)

I had a problem with mine last year. Whenever I would get up on plane my old '85 Mercury Black Max would bog down. I took it into C&C Marine and they found the carb completely packed with pieces from the inside of my fuel line. I switched it out to a "new" one and have been good to go ever since.....knock on wood.....sorry when you run an '85 you have to knock on wood alot.
Don't ask about my username, all I need to say is check yours and check them often.

I have an '84. I added an extra fuel filter to keep the crappy gas particles from my antique engine.

I would really like to find a website where I can order the lines from. Anybody know of any? I do understand I can go to the boat shops in my area and try to find them but the lines that I just had put on the boat are black and not the grey EPA compliant marked lines. The local dealers in my area did not seem real knowledgeable on the subject. I can change fuel lines myself just want to order them on line if possible.

I've purchased stuff from Don @ European Marine. No hassle, arrived quickly & priced fairly.

For people in the East SF Bay area, Boatmasters in Livermore, has the latest Mercury line (gray with blue writing, EPA Compliant) which is typically run from bulb to engine. They also have black EPA Compliant lines which are typically run from tanks to bulb.

Careful shopping @ West Marine can also get you the correct lines.
