Top Stick Teams info for Sat. Feb. 26th. at Piru

Post by Ray L. »

Lake Piru is a clean and dry Lake. This means that they expect your boat to be clean and dry from top to bottom. They enforce these rules by inspecting every boat before it enters the park. If you are not clean and dry or have been on Quagga infested water you will be 1: quarantined from the lake for a certain amount of time. 2: You will pass inspection and be allowed to go on the lake or 3: you will not pass boat inspection and be turned away for a certain amount of time and then be re inspected by the lake staff.
As far as the February 26th , Top Stick Teams event to be held at Lake Piru this is what will happen in the morning before we have the boat launch. Many of you who will be fishing will have practiced on the lake and will have your boat cabled as you leave the lake. This will make our boat inspections very easy since all that will need to be done is for us to cut your cable and your boat is ready to launch. If you were unable to get your boat cabled part of our staff has been trained to do the proper boat inspection. John Barron and myself have been trained by the D.F.G. as well as U.S. Fish and Wildlife in the proper way to inspect a boat. We will be ready with all the Lake forms to inspect your boat. Please make sure you are clean and dry and you will have a great day on the water since fishing right now at Piru is some of the best in Southern California.
We have been given permission by the lake staff to get in early The trailer will be there at aprox. 4 a.m. on Sat.. We will be going in on the left side of the Kiosk as you pull up to the main gate. You will then go to the launch area and stop at the next gate where your Park fees will be collected. It is 9.00 per vehicle and 9.00 for boat launch. Your total will be 18.00 to be paid to the person waiting at the gate as you go to the launch ramp. The staff will not have change. Once inside you will park your boat near the trailer and either John or I will be doing all boat inspections. While we do boat inspections 1 of the team members will be able to go and sign you up for the tournament. Since this is the first one of the season you will also be paying your yearly membership so please be prepared to take care of both entry and membership when you sign up at the trailer.

There will also be a needling demo in the morning before the field puts in the water. I'm not saying there is a deep bite  , but we all know winter fishing is conducive to deep caught fish, and it is imperative that EVERY angler knows how and when to deflate their fish if necessary. There will be a life size replica on site for the demo and anglers are encouraged to participate and practice on the replica provided if they need to refresh their fizzing skils.

This year should be the best one yet for this circuit. John worked his tail off getting sponsors and the raffles and the TOC package will be pretty good too. My dad and I will be fishing together this season so I'm really looking forward to it. The weather may be a little nippy, but that's what makes what we do unique(or stupid depending on how you look at it :) ).

This WILL be a great circuit to fish. I want to cherry pick some as I'm going to be in Havasu this weekend. However, anything that John and Ray do will be first class. Good luck up there guys!

What about Team Kratzer? Did your old man get his tow vehicle straightened out? I heard the insurance company decided to scrap the truck....

Well, it's only been two weeks   so naturally pretty much not a goddamn thing has been done, you know how insurance works... Boat finally got cleared to have work done, should be done next week. Didn't plan on doing the whole season anyway, might have to just cherry pick a couple later on...good luck tomorrow, bring the raingear!
