Hey Travis,

Gary's generation two rods as you refer to them are the new one's and they are great. I have a ton of them and really love them. I suppose anything can be broken but if you take reasonable care of a decent fishing rod it won't break and these just don't break.

Deejay, would you like to go fishing with me sometime? I would like to spend a day and see how you could have three broken rods. Maybe there is something I could do to help. PM me if there's anything I can do.

I'd really like to find a group of them from 683C to 735C with a 684CB, 704-05CB. I need some spinning rods as well. I was hoping to get a group of them to get them cheaper and only having to ship them once. Thanks guys

There must be some handling issues damaging the rods before the "cast". There is no way one of these rods will break on the cast with a jig! I have been fishing with Gary's rods for a few years now. I have over 20 of them in all three series, Savvy, Champion, Xtreme, in all kinds of models and have not broken any of them. I'm careful in how I put them into the rod locker and how I remove them. I don't throw my rods to get dings on the rod that would cause it to break on a "cast".

It's important to think about how we treat our stuff and then when something breaks evaluate whether it might be some of our fault or was it really a problem with the product in manufacturing or some other problem that was out of our control and covered by the warranty. I have had times where Lowrance has gone beyond the written and implied warranty to cover stuff that wasn't their fault and I've seen broken rods brought into the local shop here that I'm sure were not the fault of Dobyns Rods but were replaced under Gary's warranty replacement where you give the dealer $60.00 and you get a new identical rod.

As for the warranty problem you imagine, it's real easy to get fixed up. Just go to your dealer where you purchased them, give the rods to that shop and they will explain everything and take care of you.

To everyone out there who reads this thread, let's use some consideration and personal responsibility as to what we expect from the manufacturers of the stuff we buy. They all have warranties to cover a defective product that might get through the quality control department but to expect them to cover us at their expense when it really might be our fault is not very honest. We are not entitled to something for nothing and just because we can get away with it doesn't make it right. Think about it.

We handle all warranties and break VERY few rods. Why have you not warrantied these? Rich and I fish an aweful lot and we break none.

Your post makes it sound very bad for us. We have far too many customers on this site that would scream bloody murder if we had a problem, which we don't. Anyone can break a rod, doubtful on two, three and not doing warranty replacement, I'm calling BULLSHI*. 8 months to warranty a rod, I'm calling BULLSHI* on that too.

Our #1 strength is quality of product, followed VERY CLOSE with customer service. We work at it and try hard. This is a bullshi* post!!

Thanks Scott. I saw this post yesterday and just ignored it, rather than get into a forum pissing match. So it got worse and I responded. I have put my personal email and cell number on this site many times. I've put our shop number here many times, not to mention all info is on our website. We are pretty easy to get in touch with. We have many customers that visit this site. I want them to know we are very easy to reach and try to please our customers. 530-671-1989

Man i didnt know looking for some rods would turn into this  ......

About all I can say to this is that yes while Gary happened to get a bad batch of rods (just like every other manufacturer does) he did go above and beyond to correct the problem.

Thanks Gary for personally addressing things....Most owners would hide behind the scenes.

Now everyone go get your gear cleaned up and go fishing

I don't care what anybody says but in my own opnion Gary makes great rods and backs it up with superior service. I live about thirty minutes away from Dobyns headquarters and warranty is not an issue. He has the best customer service that treats everyone like family. There are many other companies out there that treats their customers as statistics.

I have three of your rods "savvy 702, savvy 703 spinning and a champion 702". I would compare my savvy price of $169.00 to Gloomis GLX price of around $400.00. "Savvy all the way no comparison". Thank you so much for coming out with this line for me because money is an issue. I would never buy a loomis or powell rod again. I would buy a Champion Extreme in the future but for now I already have the best on the market.

Thanks again Gary...

I cleaned up this thread - Deejay Quick if you have any questions about my decision you can PM me.

I do not appreciate someone hi jacking a classifieds request for a rod by throwing out disparaging remarks against a buyers opinion.

Rippinlips - good luck at finding the deal you want on the Dobyn's rods - Dee tee dee
