Top Stick Pyramid Sunday 3-20

Post by jbarron »

In spite of the weather we had over 22 boats show up this morning and each team saying "please tell us you are canceling the tournament". With heavy rain and 40 mile an hour winds we felt it was too dangerous to launch this morning so we decided to cancel the tournament. The lake staff did decide to close the lake as well.

I have never seen winds this strong blowing from the south directly on to the launch ramp. The sustained winds (not gusts) made it difficult to even stand up let alone launch this morning.

I want to thank everyone that showed up pretty much knowing the foul weather they were facing. We will reschedule this event as quickly as we can.
Thanks

Good decision to cancel with that type of weather. My partner and I were on our way up when we ran into someone in Castaic that said "don't go...they cancelled". Rumor has it you are looking at going back to back (Sat/Sun) for the reschedule. What about just rescheduling for July since we don't have anything that month?? My partner and I fish this trail because of the low cost and going back to back would mean coming up with $280 in a weekend. It would be a lot easier for some if we didn't go back to back....just my $.02
Please let us know ASAP when it is rescheduled.
I also was wondering if the new website is up and running yet? I would love to know where my partner and I sit after the first tourney.
Thanks
Kevin

Great decision John.
That lake is terrible in a strong south wind. And it funnels down the channel right onto the ramp.
I was sitting at home, worrying about friends I know who were going up to fish with you.
There will be another, better day.

Tom Fruh and I were ready to go on Saturday afternoon, but when I checked the weather Channel online, they were forcasting 35-45 mph winds in Gorman. That's not something we were comfortable dealing with.

i live in Paradise Ranch (about 15miles from lake)when my son picked me up this morning there was hardly any wind. we loaded up headed down the road, not even 10 miles down the road the wind pickup up significantly!! we knew they couldn't launch us like this. when we got to the lake john and ray informed us they had to cancel. we were disappointed and relieved at the same time.

We will be looking in to a different date today. As many of you know it is very tough to re schedule. I drove the trailer up the hill from a calm Castaic and was getting tossed all over the 5. It was a tough drive but an easy decission to make to cancel. I knew I would cancel when I was half way up the hill. The lake staff came by while we waited for anglers and said they were going to close the lake as well.
I will be looking for a new date today and working with John on getting it all done a.s.a.p.

I really don't like the idea of back to back either. We will stay away from that if at all possible. July is a possibility it all depends on what's available

God bless the 22 teams that were ready to fish, I do hope to make a few TopStick events this year, but with 2 events last year, fishing in the rain was ruff but fun I fished 2 events last year with ruff weather the CBC Lake Cachuma and a Bass Fed event at Lake Pyramid, and ask anyone who fish those 2 events how it was, and trust me all will let you know how much rain and wind we got that day on the water, 40+ knotsmost of the day......... weather like this is something to remember.....
