No. Cards are not writable nor can they be copied.

Robert is correct with regards to your chip.

However, starting at the beginning of 2011, Navionics has released a "Freshest Data" concept. This allows users who purchased cards mid-year 2010 and later to be able to download the latest map/region information (with free updates for 1 year) to their chip directly from Navionics web site. Of course this is still new and only available to certain chips, but its a good step in the right direction.

To help spread the word of this program, I am authorized to give out a few downloadable copies of the full licensed version of the Navplanner PC software to a few WesternBass Readers, keep an eye out for a future contest.

Here is an official press release.

Navionics "Freshest Data" Concept - daily free updates for one year

Navionics, leader in electronic cartography and digital navigation is very proud to
announce that, starting from Saturday January the 7th 2011, first day of the London boat
show, the new “Freshest Data” concept will be applicable.

Owners of Navionics Gold or Navionics Platinum charts for marine chart plotters, who were
already produced in April 2010 or later in the year can look forward to this new service.
Navionics offers its new revolutionary "Freshest Data" Concept service for 1 year for free.
Updates of the charts will be made available online every day.

"We reach with the introduction of the" Freshest Data "concept a big step of the future,"
says Thorsten Verhulst, Marine Product Manager. "Never before marine charts will be
updated and made available to the owner as quick as Navionics do now. We make the
voyage once again a little bit safer. "

The real new advantage for every owner of a Navionics chart is, that he has not to wait a
whole year for changes in his boating area. He can update the chart in the middle of the
season itself, and very simple. To this end, he just needs a card reader and a PC or
notebook that is connected to the Internet. He must be on the site of Navionics, click to
visit the webstore and the page automatically detects whether the chart is updated and if
an update is available for this chart. If so, the new version stored on the chip and is
available immediately for safe navigation.
