Hey guys...it's been a while

Post by Rob Cummings »

Well it's been a while since I've been on this site, took me a bit of clickety clickin to figure it out again. I hope all my old friends and aquaintances have been doing well. As for me...I'm now stationed in Charleston, SC since Oct 09 and lovin it. I hunt about 280 days a year, Dave the dork Poolman gets all the pics so he can attest to how full my freezer is. The only other news I have is that my squaw is due to drop a set of twins on November 10th :D :D

For more ominous talk, I have not yet picked up a bass rod or launched my boat in search of the green monsters since Dave Roberson passed. I've only spoken of it twice since I found out, with Ron C and with Dave "Mud Cobra" Poolman. I finally pulled my boat out of the back yard today and lit it up, sounds great and I really want to fish but it doesn't feel right yet. I hid behind a few excuses of not knowing where to go and bein too busy, but even though Dave and I split seperate ways in CA, it still doesn't feel right to go by myself. I was mad and threw a lot of things away when I packed and moved from CA, I only have 2 of the baits left...but they both hang on the wall in my garage and every time I see them they remind of smart azz Dave and how much fishin we did together.

I know it's time I get back to rippin lips, just a big step to get back in the saddle and man up I guess.

Dave Poolman...thanks for spooning me on the four wheeler last month.

Little Dougie Hanson...I miss your banana hammock.

Eric and Larry...I miss giving you guys my lunch money.

Eric's Tackle...I miss pickin on Mighty Whitey that never got laid (by a girl)

Roger Tunaman...I got your message and lost my phone before I could call you back. Please call me again so we can catch up!!

The 2 Dons and Steve up north...how's the fishin up there?

Pat Winningham and Pete...sorry I cut you guys off behind the island during that night tournament, even though I didn't admit it then I did feel like a giant doosh after I found out who it was

Ron C....I miss showing up to every tournament you orchestrated and hearing Dave Roberson say, "lets go talk to Sergeant Slaughter". hahaha, he thought that was the funniest thing and was one of his pre-tourny rituals when we pulled in.

Hey Rob, its good to hear from you. As I said on your message on your cell, we who knew Dave will always remember him and the good ol days. Its good to not jump in all the way just ease back in to the boat. Do you still have the same cell #. If you do I still have yours so let me know. Fishing up here in the north has been brutally tough. Almost record rains flooding and not much sunlight has kept the fish from knowing WTF to do. They come up and then go back down, I did get a good one about 6 weeks ago then the rains came and they have not stopped. Had rotator cuff surgery in Late FEB and no fishing since. Rob I will always remember you with the hat cam at the bassathon, because I had to drive down there to sign up for the 1st HBC. Those were some good times, That was too cool. Take care

Hey Rob...

Good to hear from you.. First off thanks for all you do to help keep us all safe and for the freedom that you help provide to us all..
Also good job on keeping that freezer full...damn I wish I had the time to hunt even half of the amount of days you get to, Im jealous!! lol Thats too cool!!

Now...Im gonna tell you something that Im sure youve heard many times in the last 2 years but Ill tell you again anyways... Dave would want you to be out there hammering the bass..plain and simple!! Dave loved this crazy sport of chasing these green fish and he'd want/EXPECT no less then you continueing to get out there and whacking bass in his name as often as possible. Just do it bro... Dave will be with you, no doubt.
When you pull into a calm fishy cove at first light and pick up your swimbait rod, put the troller down and get ready to make your first cast.... The feeling of excitement and anticipation will overcome you before your make your cast and the hair on the back of your neck will stand up.... That will prove that Dave is there with you... He loved Bass fishing and had a passion for it that many dont have... there is no doubt in my mind that he will be with you in spirit bro. Each and every time you cast, hook a donkey or even arrive at the lake, Daves presence will never leave you and he'll share in all of your catches, misses and breakoffs forever...

Now get out there...and as Dave would say..."Leave the fairy wand in the locker, bust out the big stick and put a donkey in the boat"!!!

take care and good to hear from you..

Rob good to hear for you. I sure miss those days at Casitas and think about how much fun they were, just a bunch of good dudes trying to bring in a big sack. I told both of you how much i admired the fact that you to were able to fish those tournaments and and be in the service (awesome). Not only fishing tournaments and doing well , but to develop a butt kicking swimbait (splitail). I was sickened when i heard of Daves passing and thru that splitail at Piru for about a month. I agree with what Pete said 100 percent, dave loved chasing those green giants and would want you to be hammering them. Rob thank you for fighting the good fight and if you ever want to throw some big baits and your back in cal let me know, your aways welcome in my boat. God bless Pat winningam

Well, well, well...
It's little Robbie getting ready to dip the boat again...

AND, with two little rugrats ready to join the fray. now THAT is really something. I hope you are as excited about those kids as you were when you thought you found a quagga at Casitas. ehehe. But, love them little ones with everything ya got. That is real, and perhaps the one regret in life that I have, as I got none of my own...least that i know of..

As far as fishin goes, Pete got it right. Dave would have wanted your fat a$$ out there tryin to get something. I think he really would have wanted you to throw one of my little popcorn jigs on a fairy wand instead of those dumb monster baits ya'll tweak your backs throwing all day.

We all go to meet our maker someday, and I believe there is a reason for when people are called upon. Perhaps the Lord needed some advice on how to fish a swimbait?.. I dunno... But who am I to question that decision? But I do know that life is meant to be lived doing what you know must be done. So if it is time, then git youself in the water and start swingin. Besides, it's a lot safer than crawling through the briar patch to go toe -to-toe with a 600 lb swine in a bitin contest when his teeth are about 8 inches long eh?

Davy (perfect hair) Poolboy sends along the pictures of your adventures, so I've been watching from afar. My advice is get going. Life is too short in every circumstance, so don't delay doing anything you believe in. Treasure the time you got to spend with a good friend. But I do know that both David, and our Lord, do NOT want you sittin around for all the days. You have your life and your family now. LIVE IT.

Good to year from ya there youngin! But do me a favor and don't name either of your kids after me, eh?

Ah yes, South Carolina, where i lost my virginity at a Huntin Camp not far from Old Rob's house.. Yes, he left me duct taped to his 4 wheeler in my Camouflage Banana Hammock.. It was "Deliverance on Steroids", I will never forget my time in the deep south thanks to my good buddy Rob.. Yes the "Deep South", "Where men are men and Sheep are Scared".
Anyway, it was good to see ya Rob, i just want everyone to know that Rob has not changed, just gotten cuter and more gay as he gets older...
Now get that chubby little ars of yours on the water and do some fishin...

Rub, it was sure great hearing your voice Friday night, and I'm really glad to hear you and the little misses are doing great. Congratulations on the twins, and we'll be praying for a smooth and easy delivery.

I too miss those times at Casitas - those were some of the best of my life and it will never be the same. Really a shame, but I'm blessed to have been able to share those experiences.

Definitely live life to the fullest, as it is all too brief and one never knows when the good Lord is going to make the call.

Love ya brother, and hope to meet up again soon!

Thanks for the kind words guys. Its nice to see the good guys are still around....oh yeah and Dave Poolwoman too :D I got out on the water last Saturday and man was I clueless...even more than normal. Its definitely not SoCal waters, deep water is 20 feet and 200 yards off the bank is 3 feet deep. I don't think my DD22s, 1 oz spinnerbaits and 3/4 oz jigs are gonna do the trick, going to have to downsize everything (like Poolman's man junk). I did miss one good bite because I didn't know what the heck happened until it was too late.

I did go after big catfish at night with a buddy last summer a few times. It was more for the entertainment than catching fish. There's something about sitting on a beer cooler in a 14 foot jon boat watching 12 and 13 foot alligators swim around you in circles all night long.

Bassindon, if you ever come this way to visit him and can make it down here let me know. You can take my boat out and I'll go too :D

Dougie...I would equate jumpin on a 300 lb pig with just a knife right along with a 15 pounder suckin down a topwater swimbait. Talk about a rush buddy!

I'll get around to PM'ing a few of ya back and a few more phone calls. I have a couple ideas of a few things I'd like to do to keep a few of the baits out there, while keepin Dave's legacy alive on the water and giving back in his name. I just have to return a few phone calls and I'm waiting to hear back from his family.

If anybody ever comes to SC for any reason just get ahold of me somehow. Poolboy always knows how to. If we can't fish, I'll find something for you to put in my freezer....
